(80% to me, 20% to TheSparkyDee)
Well, this exploded in a way I never though possible! In less than a day, I got a total of 80 responses and a ton of general interest in the project! It's been a really awesome experience talking about this and I hope I can keep that interest going throughout the entire season. Before I reveal the roster, I want to lay down the groundwork and explain how this series will work and explain how I set up the game. So, let's get started.
First order of business is actually another poll. This time, it's about how I'm going about each episode and what kind of format you guys want. You have 3 options: text highlights, where I basically write out highlight plays as they happen into an article form. The second option is one game a week in video form where I give live commentary over the gameplay footage. The third option is 2 games a week without commentary, just the raw gameplay footage.
Poll here
All of these options will have a sort of abbreviated section at the end, with me highlighting major stat lines as well as defensive and offensive players of the week.
Now with that busy work out of the way, we can move on to how I've decided to set up the game for the season! For those of you who don't know yet, I will be using Madden 18 on the PlayStation 4, as that is the most up-to-date Madden I own and one I am familiar with, as I've done a project very similar to this in the past as well as running the ISFL Season 23 Pro Bowl through Madden 18.
I will be playing on All-Pro Simulation with 11 minute quarters, using some sliders created by beastBEASTbeast. All-Madden has far too many issues with the AI basically cheating, so All-Pro is a much more fair setting and these sliders make the gameplay both more difficult and at least somewhat realistic, in my experience. I will be using a Run n' Gun style offensive playbook created by Jedi_Capricorn and a defensive playbook created by Warlok, as they give a good amount of play variety and will hopefully get more people onto the field more often. I will also be using some updated rosters to reflect the 2020 off season as teams looked right after the draft. Lastly, and what is likely the biggest departure from my last series, injuries will be turned on(!!! dundundun !!!). We'll see how much this affects the team moving through the weeks, as low endurance players in the sim have a correspondingly lower injury rating in Madden.
Now that the busy work is out of the way, let's meet the team! The team that will be replaced will be the New York Jets, who won the vote by a landslide.
QUARTERBACKS
Jay Cue, 94 OVR
Colby Jack, 94 OVR
Well, the good news for me is that these two are basically identical quarterbacks with how I do my Madden ratings. The only difference is that Jack has 1 less stamina, injury and toughness. Otherwise, they are identical through and through. Both of them are pretty accurate, they have strong arms, they have enough speed to get past most defensive linemen and slower linebackers, they're perfectly good quarterbacks for the job at hand.
RUNNINGBACKS
Jamar Lackson, 99 OVR
Raphtalia Chan, 99 OVR
Zoe Watts, 91 OVR
Now, some of you who watched the Pro Bowl might be confused as to why Jackson and Chan are rated at 99 OVR instead of the 94 OVR that I previously declared as the max for RBs with how I transfer them from the sim to Madden. Well, I have no idea. Not much else to say here, since all three of these guys are speed backs with max speed. Watts is very slightly worse than Chan and Lackson, but 99 speed cures a lot of sins in the eyes of Madden.
FULLBACKS
Tatsu Nakamura, 99 OVR
Zee Rechs, 99 OVR
For those of you that paid attention to my last series like this, I chose the two TEs that didn't quite make the cut to the full roster and slotted them in at fullback (last time, at least). So, why is Nakamura here? Technically, he's supposed to be one of the returners, but he's a blocking back in the sim, so it just made sense to me. I'll explain where the other TE went in a bit, but Zee follows that rule and therefore slots in as one of two monstrous fullbacks.
WIDE RECEIVERS
Michael Witheblock, 91 OVR
William Lim, 91 OVR
Sean O’Leary, 91 OVR
Tychondrius Hood, 85 OVR
Doug Howlett, 84 OVR
Kai Sakura, 81 OVR
Thomas Passman, 81 OVR
You ever wonder what an offense with 7 Tyreek Hills would look like? Well, feast your eyes on this. Every single receiver here is the Speed archetype, and every single one of them has already maxed speed. So, what I'm saying is, 4 Verts all day erry day. Jack and Cue may not have pure cannon arms, but these guys can blow past corners so quickly you don't need to worry about chucking it deep.
TIGHT ENDS
Heath Evans, 99 OVR
James Angler, 95 OVR
Jeffrey Phillips, 92 OVR
Austin McCormick, 92 OVR
Damn, that's tight, bro.
Jokes aside, every single one of these guys would be considered an elite tight end in the NFL. And I have 4 of them! Evans has the best hands out of all four, and while their blocking might not be the best, we have a strong offensive line and they should be good enough in most situations.
OFFENSIVE LINEMEN
Givussafare Rubbe, 92 OVR
Icebox Riposte, 82 OVR
Benson Bailey, 93 OVR
Simon Tremblay, 85 OVR
Calvin Golladay, 79 OVR
Felix Archstone, 78 OVR
Julio Jones, 90 OVR
Bruce Buckley, 84 OVR
Future Trunks, 90 OVR
Greedly Sly, 84 OVR
With this, I bring the fairest rubs in all the land. No long will I have to worry about scrub NFL lineman, our line is ISFL-bred through and through! We even have enough linemen these days to have backups at every single position! As much as people joke about fair rubs, this is really cool to see IMO. I've always loved people who tough it out at less flashy positions, and hopefully this can serve as some sort of reward for these ten.
DEFENSIVE ENDS
Immanuel Blackstone, 90 OVR
Asher Montain, 85 OVR
Son Goku, 87 OVR
Nero Alexander, 82 OVR
Not much to say here about these guys. Alexander returns as one of 7 players from the last roster, the others being Rubbe, McCormick and some others I have yet to reveal. Everyone here has a good mix of speed, strength and agility, which means the defensive line in general should be pretty dominant.
DEFENSIVE TACKLES
Patrik Money, 91 OVR
Big Edd, 88 OVR
Goat Tank, 84 OVR
Bubba Thumper, 83 OVR
I say we have a good mix of talent at the defensive tackle position. Money and Thumper bring raw power up the middle with a lot of strength, while Tank and Edd have a little extra finesse and speed. Thumper also returns from last years roster, this time being rated at a higher overall because reasons.
LINEBACKERS
Galf Wilf, 92 OVR
Derred De Ville, 84 OVR
Juan Domine, 89 OVR
Guy Fields, 80 OVR
Richard Leaking, 68 OVR
Haha Mango-Panda, 91 OVR
Hingle McCringleberry, 81 OVR
The vast majority of the linebackers here bring a lot of speed to the table. Leaking has the dubious honor of lowest overall on the team thanks to his low INT stat, but the rest range from very good to elite. Wilf and Mango-Panda will be major leaders of this defense and I cannot wait to see what kind of stat lines they can put up.
CORNERBACKS
Brandon Booker, 98 OVR
Andrew Witten, 97 OVR
Osiris Firestorm-Fjord, 96 OVR
Swantavious Jones, 95 OVR
Djibutee McJimmerson, 93 OVR
Dan Foster, 91 OVR
Dermot Lavelle Jr., 89 OVR
This cornerback group is beyond elite, it is legendary. When your lowest overall rated corner on the roster is an 89 overall, something magical can happen. This entire secondary is a no-fly zone, and every single corner here is completely lock-down. The only thing that might hold them back is the stupidity of Madden's defensive AI, but even then, they're good enough to recover from any big mistake. Lavelle Jr. also is the last defensive player to return to this roster.
SAFETIES
Prince Vegeta, 88 OVR
Tayshawn Crunk, 84 OVR
Matt “Son of Havoc” Cross, 87 OVR
Johnny Hellzapoppin, 84 OVR
The safety group might not be as good as the cornerbacks, but that's an incredible mountain to climb. Every guy here is very quick, so closing the distance on a receiver looking to go deep or blitzing from the backfield should be no issue at all for any of these guys.
KICKER AND PUNTER
Venus Powers, 91 OVR K
Matthew McDairmid, 88 OVR P
Not much to say about these two, they're great kickers. McDairmid overall has the stronger leg, but it's not by much. Both of them have plenty of power and accuracy, so nothing to complain about here.
RETURNERS
Saba Donut, 97 OVR
Jed Podolak, 96 OVR
Mathias Hanyadi, 99 OVR
Tree Gelbman, 90 OVR
Remember what I said about the other tight end? Well, say hello to returner Gelbman! I had to list her as a wide receiver rather than tight end, since the game doesn't let you set TEs as returners. Donut and Hanyadi both reprise their role as returners from the last roster as well.
So there's the roster! Realistically, I should go 16-0 here and win the Super Bowl. While other rosters have strong players, pretty much every group here would be considered at minimum, top 10 in the NFL. So barring any mistakes from yours truly, we should be perfect.
Once that poll is closed and I have the team logo all set, I'll begin doing the weekly games! I hope you enjoy the games going forward, and congratulations to everyone that was voted onto the roster!
