Each season the Colorado Yeti select a few lucky rookies to become a part of their team and family. As one of the few members of the team that the Colorado Yeti traded up for, the general management team sat down with user Quail (Lux Opal) to get to know her a little bit better, learn more about her player, and to ask her a series of questions, in the attempts to gain her some more money. It was a great conversation, and we are thrilled to be able to share it with you. We tried to cover everything from thoughts about the ISFL, to some favorites, and beyond. We hope that you enjoy this incredibly interview opportunity.
I: You spent your first season with the Tijuana Luchadores, what was the draft like? The experience on the team? Do you have any favorite parts? Anything you were nervous about that you are finding easier now?
Q: The draft was overall pretty chill and fun! My experience on the team was good! Everyone I talked to was great! I think my favorite part was just interacting with everyone. I was nervous about just getting into the groove of things but that’s definitely getting better.
I: With Sylphreni’s latest player being drafted to Tijuana, what’s it like to have both of your current GMs as a part of your team on Tijuana?
Q: Having both gms on Tijuana has been fine lol I honestly haven’t had any reason to not like that.
I: You haven’t been with the team long, but what are some of your favorite pieces about the Colorado Yeti?
Q: I appreciate how laid back and friendly everyone has been on Yeti! The overall experience has been great so far!
I: What is your favorite book to read?
Q: My favorite book I have read in recent years is The Disaster Artist. it is extremely funny and if you like the movie The Room, it is a must-read.
I: What makes you laugh the most?
Q: Any trashy reality television show makes me laugh the most lol.
I: Do you have a favorite? I love trashy TV too so finding someone to talk and laugh about it with is always great!
Q: Any mid-2000’s vhi reality show is good! Especially the Surreal Life!! I am also a sucker for some housewives. The Salt Lake housewives are wild right now.
I: Surreal Life was my jam ages ago. Was also a sucker for like the real world vs road rules battles. You watch a lot of documentaries, and we know that there are some people who are always looking to get more recommendations. So, if someone could only watch one, what would be the one you'd recommend most? Why?
Q: I would recommend American Movie! It follows an amateur filmmaker trying to finance his dream project by completing an abandoned, low-budget horror movie with the help of friends and family members. it is lighthearted and the type of documentary anyone could watch and appreciate how unintentionally hilarious it is.
I: You could go back in time, what year would you travel to?
Q: I would travel back to the mid 70’s. It just seems like a really fun time to be young lol. And it was an amazing time for fashion and music.
I: Do you have a favorite band or singer from the 70's?
Q: I am a fan of Earth, Wind & Fire lol. Rodriguez is amazing and there’s an amazing doc about him called Searching for Sugarman. Fleetwood Mac is always good. Bowie too.
I: What are some of your hobbies?
Q: I am really into film so my main hobbies are discovering new movies and other media to watch. I am also really into fashion and psychology so I like finding films that intersect with these interests. I love having discussions about filmmakers, cinematography, actors, characters, wardrobe/costumes, etc.
I: What is the best gift you have ever been given?
Q: My little brother was born on my fourth birthday so you could say that was a pretty rad birthday present lol.
I: That’s so cool!
I: If you were ever to switch positions, what positions would you be interested in?
Q: Since I have a very minimal background knowledge, I am not sure which position I would be interested in. It would be fun to maybe try something new out in the future.
I: I know from past discussions that you aren't necessarily big into football as a whole, but do you have a favorite team? Why or why not?
Q: Based off of who I have interacted with in the league, I have really enjoyed talking to the people on my team. So I guess for now it is the Colorado Yeti lol.
I: What about professional teams? Do you follow the NFL at all? Any other sports you are super interested in?
Q: And for favorite professional teams, I don’t really follow the NFL or have a favorite sports team. But my family is into baseball so I’ll watch that. I think women’s volleyball is also pretty dope to watch but I am not really sure about any professional women’s volleyball teams lol
I: Which ISFL team would you say is most like a Ford F-150? Bonus Points: What DSFL team would you say is most like a Ford F-150?
Q: For ISFL: Orange County otters. They made the playoffs 25 seasons In a row and won a lot of championships. For DSFL: Tijuana luchadores pretty much the same answer but less playoffs.
I: Of your future teammates are you most looking forward to hanging out with the Firebender, Moose, Penguin, or Robot Dog?
Q: I’m most looking forward to hanging out with Moose because you are awesome and have been super helpful and fun and you made me the adorable quail art!
I: Do you agree that Yeti is a sometimes food, or do you prefer to keep your mascots out of your diet
Q: No I don’t want to eat a Yeti lmao.
I: If you had to describe your team using only different species of birds; how would you describe it?
Q: Eagles because they are majestic and bad ass. Also, quails because they are also majestic and bad ass!
I: The league has seen expansions officially go international with Berlin and Bondi Beach opening the door for teams that exist outside of North America. Given that gives you hundreds of options for countries to place franchise; where would you place a franchise if given the reins of an expansion team? Any particular reasons why that you would like to share with us?
Q: I would choose Amsterdam because my bestie had been living there and I’d love to visit lol
I: Extending from the previous question there have been talks of us landing humans on Mars within the 2020s, and based on the sim universe being well beyond that it is feasible that we have bases on other planets. If the league were to see interplanetary expansion happen, is there a particular celestial body you would like to have host a team?
Q: The asteroid belt because you can just jump from asteroid to asteroid and that would be pretty cool.
I: Chad Kroeger, lead singer of one of the all time great bands, once cried out “Never made it as a wise man, couldn’t cut it as a poor man stealing” in his generational ballad This is how you remind me. Quails being notoriously bird-brained make it seemingly unlikely that your player might make it as a wise man (or bird, no judgement.) However, if push came to shove, could your player cut it as a poor man (or bird, no judgement) stealing? If yes, how would they go about it? If no, why would they fail?
Q: Very confused by the chad kroeger question lol I don’t know how to answer that one. So I’m just going to move on lol.
I: Many people attribute the famous line, “Never, Never, Never Give Up” to Winston Churchill during a commencement speech he gave on October 29, 1941 to the boys of the Harrow School, however this is a mistake. In actuality, Churchill never said these words, and gave a much different speech from what modern day internet historians might tell you. However, these words were not only said by a rather influential individual of our era, but also sung by none other than Thomas the Tank Engine initially on the September 17th, 2002 airing of Thomas and Friends. So, if your player were a train and determined to “never, never, never give up” where would your train originate and where would its final destination be located?
Q: If I were a train that was determined to never, never, never give up. I would start in Minnesota, since I am from there and then my end goal would be to end in Minnesota. Making a trip around the whole world and seeing everything it has to offer.
I: On Christmas of 1965, Pope John XXIII shocked the world by issuing a Papal Bull invoking a summons for what would become the Second Vatican Council, or Vatican II as it is more well known. In the years following, Vatican II is quite clearly the most divisive piece of Theology the Roman Catholic Church has put forth in arguably the past 200 years. Possessing a strong knowledge of theological disciplines and a vibrant liturgical background, how long would your player last in a bull riding competition? Can they pull off a cowboy hat? How much experience do they have around large livestock, and have they ever operated heavy machinery? The people have a right to know.
Q: I’m not going to flatter myself here I think I would fall off immediately lol. But, I would wear the hell out of a cowboy hat lol. I know how to milk a cow if that counts as large livestock so that’s near. I have never operated heavy machinery though. Big vehicles scare me lol.
I: Legend states that in 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue, however modern day scientists refute this fact, as modern day science now suggests that the oceans have always been blue in color dating back to pre-Jurassic times. There exists a small, but vocal minority in the scientific community that suggests it is impossible for the seas to have been blue for that long, as we’d see far more “staining” of Beluga whales over that time and they would no longer appear the white as we see them now in the wild, but much more a shade or shades of light blue. As an expert on ecology yourself, given your username choice of Quail, has your player ever gotten hyped up for a game by listening to Eifel 65’s timeless banger from 1999, “Blue?” If not, why not? What could he/she possibly be listening to that is more hype inducing than that song? What are your players top 3 hype songs for gameday, aside from Eifel 65’s “Blue?”
Q: There is no song better to get hyped to than Eifel 65’s “Blue” so I would stick with that song. Maybe I would add some FloMilli like Beef Flomix in there or Kanye West like “Devil in a new dress.”
I: Thank you so much for chatting with us. It’s been great to get to know you better, and we’re so excited to spend the next several seasons with you as a part of the team!
