Sconnie: Sconnie McHits again, and I'm pleased to be back again with another post-draft interview, this time with my current SHL teammate, current Portland Python, and new member of the New Orleans Secondline, Mark Goodhead!
Mark, we'll jump right in! You were selected in the 2nd round with the 18th overall pick and were the first tight end off the board. Give us your thoughts on the draft. Was New Orleans a team that stood out to you in scouting? Is this higher or lower than you thought you'd go in the draft?
Mark: Hi Sconnie. Thank you for having me interviewing me. First off let me start by saying well done to all of the S31 draftee, they’ve all worked extremely hard to get to where they are now and it’s only just the beginning!
Well, it was a tense night for sure. I’d had loads of exciting conversations with many teams and couldn’t wait to be drafted. I never thought I’d be taken in the 1st round, I’d hoped for a selection in the 2nd and that’s what I got. It was a huge relief when my name was called for NOLA. I’d had a great time chatting to the GM’s and they have a good set-up there, so was pleased to have been selected.
Sconnie: What was the reception like in the New Orleans locker room? Anybody you've really hit it off with early on?
Mark: Reception was great, everyone was warm and welcoming as I’ve come to find from all member in the ISFL. Everyone in the LR is great and hope to get to know them better over the coming seasons.
Sconnie: Have you had a chance to talk to your GMs about their plans for your player yet? When do you plan on being called up? What will your role be for the Secondline?
Mark: Yeah so currently, the plan is stay down with Portland for a season possibly 2 depending on how people progress there. Hopefully have a large amount of TPE banked ready for my call up.
As far as I’m aware there are two possible roles that I can undertake, either to stay as a TE or more likely make the transitions to CB to aid NOLA secondary.
Sconnie: Any predictions for Portland or NOLA this season?
Mark: Well for Portland is has to be the North championship title really. The strong team we have here should give us no other alternative. Eventually taking it all the way to the Ultimini
As for NOLA I guess they need to keep rebuilding and improving key positions to eventually challenge for the Ultimus in a couple of seasons times
Sconnie: It should be an exciting season, in Portland especially! Is there anything else you'd like to share with our readers?
Mark: Yeah I can’t wait for this season to kick off - I feel like I’ve had a really great off-season and am really exited to hopefully being a top TE and a force to be reckon with.
Finally it’s been a pleasure so far to be in this wonderful league, each and every one of you are warriors! Can’t wait to face you all on the field.
