Thanks everyone for joining me for the very first installment in my annual off season interview series. Today, I am happy to be joined by DSFL Legend and soon to be ISFL Draft Pick Modern Nazgul! Nazgul, thanks a ton for joining me today. Lets start with your first season in the DSFL. How was it playing for the Minnesota Grey Ducks this past season and what are your thoughts on how the season turned out?
mile114 —
Coming to the Grey Ducks was a dream come true honestly. I wanted to go to a team with a super active locker room, a great twitter presence, one that could offer me quality playing time, and also were able to compete for a title. The Ducks fit every part of that criteria, so I was and am obviously thrilled to wind up there.
After winning back to back titles, we were supposed to be having a down year, running out a new Quarter back and not expected to do much. It was pretty awesome then that on the last night of the season we were not only able to clinch a playoff spot but the division as well. Obviously in the end, things didn't work out as we lost a heartbreaker in the playoffs, but I still think we exceeded expectations and will be back on the top of the proverbial mountain in short order.
As an individual, I had an up and down year. I got picked on a lot by opposing QBs and without a ton of TPE to defend myself, I frequently found myself giving up big chunks of yards. That all changed in week 10, when I had what will probably end up being the game of my career, by posting 10 tackles, 3 interceptions , 2 FFs, and 1 FR all in one game against the Kansas City Coyotes. It was a tight game and every turnover was extremely crucial to not just winning that game but also the division (as we finished just a half game above the aforementioned Coyotes. Obviously things went a little more back to normal following that game, but as my abilities grew I found myself able to cope with the competition a lot better and look forward to shutting down an entire half of the field next season.

I'm so glad you enjoyed Minnesota. My good friend in real life / Honolulu Teammate / Rival Ice Bear is the General Manager there. I remember joking with him before the season that they won back to back championships and now that he took over (and a lot of players left to isfl) they may not make playoffs. Then boom you guys had a great season. I am happy for you guys guys always hate missing out on a chance to give Ice Bear a hard time.. How do you like him has a General manager? You'll continue to see your player get better and better and I'm sure develop them into a shut down corner soon enough. So the ISFL draft is coming up very so the ISFL draft is coming up very soon. As a prospect, this was maybe my favorite time. What are your thoughts on the draft and what round you might go in? How has scouting been? Has any team shown you more interest than others?
mile114 -
Yeah I'm excited about the draft. Obviously the DSFL draft was fun but I really felt like I didn't know a ton of people or anything so I had no idea what to expect. After one season though I feel like I have a lot more connections around the league and with some great scouting conversations I can honestly say I have no idea where I'll end up, but there are quite a few teams I'd really enjoy ending up with.
I feel like I'll probably go late round 1 into early round 2 perhaps. I know I've only talked sparingly with the teams at the top of the draft so I don't really forsee a situation where I jump up that high. Also it seems like CB is a need that only a few teams really have so I think that will play into it as well.
Scouting was good. It got a little repetitive with some teams just asking the same five or six questions. You could tell a few of them were just checking me off their scouting list and didn't really have much interest. The teams that really spent the time to have good conversations and stuff, those teams had a way different vibe. San Jose, Chicago, and Honolulu were three of those teams and my fingers are crossed I end up with one of them if I'm being honest.
One team, cough orange county cough started scouting me after I was pretty sure the draft was already into the second round.. so either they have no idea what's going on or I am falling way past where I thought I might haha...
GBeck —
Uh oh bring on the draft drama lol. That is exactly why I love the draft time so much. No matter which side of it you are on, there is always so much intrigue while waiting to see how things work out for everyone. That's hilarious about Orange County. I do not know what pick they have but if you do happen to slide don't worry. I was the 2 pick of the 2nd round and could not be more happy how things turned out! Shifting focus some here, once you are drafted and in the isfl, are you hoping to be called ip immediately and play our rookie year or are you okay to work on your players skills and win some more games in Minnesota? Also talk to me about what you being to a locker room. How would you describe your personality and everything that could be expected to those who are not yet familiar with you?
mile114 —
No I still think we have a job to do in the twin cities for at least another season maybe two. Obviously at the end of the day it's all up to the team that drafts me and their needs, but I really don't want to come up just to get burned on every play by super speedy wide receivers.
As far as what I being to a a locker room. I would say number one is activity. I am pretty much always on my phone or computer for better or worse and always looking to avoid doing work. That means if you want to have a Locker Room that is fun and active, you can count on me to help get you there. I'm a dad to 3 insane children in deal laugh so I come pre-loaded with dad jokes and just generally enjoy having a good time. I do not really wanna get involved in any drama, other than maybe some shit talking on Twitter, so you can count on me to not bring down the room.

Note to readers: I got sick and had to pause the interview until Saturday. My original hope was to get this posted prior to the draft, but was not able to with being sick. So I am picking this up now post draft
Ok so first things first I'll start back where we ended. I have got to say, I have loved your activity in our aloha Channel and now could not be happier to call you a TEAM MATE! Knowing we were short on draft picks this year I did not think there was a chance, but man I can not believe we were able to get you! Literally I do not think we could have had a better week between winning the ultimus, getting some big free agents and then landing you and a couple other really great rookies. Did you watch the draft stream? What were your thoughts when you saw us trade up from the second round? Did you have any idea it was for you?
mile114 —
Man yeah it's crazy! Of all the teams I felt like I was vibing with HON the most but I just didn't think it was gonna be possible with them having no 1st rounder. I had talked with flex about it and he mentioned moving up but it didn't seem super convincing and I just didn't see how they would possibly make that jump into what I assumed would have to be top 10 based on other conversations I had leading up to the draft. But I couldn't be happier with how it worked out! So I was trying to watch the stream but I was also in the middle of reading Hank the Cowdog to my kids before bed. They were not happy that I kept looking at my phone haha. I knew I was going to Baltimore cause they never so much as reached out. But after that every pick I was wondering if it was gonna be me. When it got to 8 I definitely thought I'd either be going to Berlin or one of the picks right after, but when I heard darkness say there was a trade it was like an instant understanding of what had happened. When I saw the blue and yellow flash on the screen I just knew it had to be for me. I was shocked and so so hype. Although I did not recognize the render at all so I was kindof confused haha (edited)
But then it sucked cause I couldn't join in the LR fun til the kids went down. Lol
mile114 — 10/31/2021
Okay so I have a question for you actually. What were the conversations like on your side during thee draft? Like were you guys trying other deals? Did some people think that was not a smart move? I'm curious about the behind the scenes
Beck -
During the off season our war room is always looking for ways to improve our football team. You are a prospect we really liked a lot and our general managers put some feelers out there about moving up. The price was not cheap but they found a deal we all liked and I know we could not be happier to have you on the team. Not only have you been a great presence in our locker room in the Aloha server / channel, but you fill a big need for us at corner back too. Everyone in the war room and locker room as a whole was excited about the trade and to be able to get you. I thought you would be picked much earlier than you were, so I love that we were able to get up there to get you where we did

Beck — 11/01/2021
Now that the draft has passed have you heard if you will be called up or if you will be staying down? Either way what goals have you set for your self as a player and as a user both short and long term? Do you have any war room interest in Minnesota or Honolulu?
mile114 — 11/01/2021
I'll definitely be staying down this year. Not sure what will happen after that but I have a long way to go before I'm ready to compete with the big boys and girls. Im not really interested in coming up yet and just getting burned by 1000 tpe receivers.
I honestly don't have a ton of interest in winning personal awards. If they come great but that's not really my thing. But what I do want is to win a championship or two. That to me is worth way more than individual awards.
In the short term I want to lead the ducks to a championship this year. That's my number on goal.
As far as war room, I was just added to the Minnesota war room so I'm really looking forward to the offseason and getting ready for next year. I got to do some scouting and I'm excited to see where all these young guys end up in the DSFL draft.
I would love to be in the Honolulu one but I'm guessing it'll be awhile
Beck
Well with that mind set you will definetly fit in great! That championship mindset will be perfect in helping us find some sustained success here in Honolulu. I hope you enjoy Minnesotas war room. I learned so much more about the ISFL once I was able to join Norfolks war room. It is a really fun and valuable experience. Just don't listen too much to ice bear lol. As we wind down this interview, I can not ignore awards tonight. You talked previously about your domination one week last season and you were rewarded tonight! Congrats on winning the defensive performance of the year award, that was very well earned! You were one of the few players on our team to win an award this season on either level so congrats again! Is there anything else that you would like to say, or just add to this interview? Anything you'd like to put the league on Notice for or maybe just a warning to opposing offenses lol?
mile114 —
Only thing id like to say is that this season I plan on spreading the love around a little more. So all the teams OTHER than Kansas City should be concerned. 6 teams left to pick off at least once. Should be a fun season!
Beck —
That is a great note to leave off on. I really appreciate your time and for doing this interview with me. Maybe we will do a follow up next off season to see where things stand then. Until then, I hope you have a great season in Minn and can not wait to have you here in Honolulu too! I hope you have a great day! Readers - this off season's interview series will not have as many episodes as last off season, but be sure to be on the look out for more content coming your way very soon! If you read this all the way through, as always, thank you for your time
