A Player At A Crossroads
I was recently able to sit down with Jacksonville’s own Desta Danger as he returned after his recent playoff loss against San Antonio. In 13 games, Desta Danger was able to amass 58 tackles, 2 forced fumbles (1 recovery) a sack, 3 interceptions, and 11 pass deflections. Most notably, he was also ranked as the number 8 overall prospect in this upcoming draft. In this interview, I was able to get personal with the up and comer and discuss his views on the season, the playoff loss, and what he believes the future holds for him.
Duval Daily: Desta, your season unfortunately just came to an end. How are you feeling right now?
Desta Danger: Well, no competitor wants to lose so its disappointing that the outcome was what it was. Could we have beaten them? Sure. But on that night, they were the better team. Now, its my job to get ready for the next game, wherever I may be playing.
Duval Daily: And where do you think you may be playing? You have been representing yourself throughout this process. No agent, manager, or coach directing you. That must make this period very interesting for you.
Desta Danger: Well, I play the games, I put the time in off the field. Who better to know my needs than me? Managing myself has given me the ability to speak to GMs one on one and really get into the nitty gritty of football and next season. Honestly, at times it has been a lot but everyone I have spoken to has been candid and helpful.
Duval Daily: And who exactly have you spoken to? Who has reached out?
Desta Danger: I think you know very well that I can’t tell you that. However, I have to say that it is an honor to have been approached by those at the top level. I cannot wait until this draft.
Duval Daily: Well I can understand that, don’t want to give everything away…but let us move on. There are a couple of player storylines that you have an interest in. Your teammate @nunccoepi's Verso L’Alto is a proven talent and was actually ranked 3rd overall on the Top Prospects list. How do you see things going for him and what do you think teams will get out of a player like him?
Desta Danger: Well he may not be smart or pretty but he can play football. The big lug is lucky I taught him everything I know. But in all seriousness, he is about as consistent of a performer that you are going to get. Sure, he didn’t have the most touchdowns but he made play after play and you can tell he’s not afraid to get dirty and mix it up with the big boys. He’s got 16 pancakes to his name after all. If you need an offensive player off the board, take him. Good luck getting him to shut up in the locker room after though..haha.
Duval Daily: That’s the offensive player you choose to endorse? A tight end when Howard Miller is the clear #1?
Desta Danger: I’d rather cover a pretty boy receiver any day. And at least I know L’Ato can take a hit from the best of them. We squared up plenty at practice and he left me convinced.
Duval Daily: What a bold claim! We’ll surely see how this progresses. And another player you share a close relationship is @[Ryan Lefevre]. Can you tell us about that?
Desta Danger: Yeah, its probably lesser known but he and I go way back. He’s actually the one who pushed me to enter into the league. I had my doubts but I’m glad I listened. Going through the waiver wire, he and I were both interested to see if we’d be able to suit up together but Tijuana snagged me. So we went from teammates to friendly rivals. It was always fun comparing stats after our games trying to one up each other. In fact, he was probably one of my best motivators. I knew I had to bring my A game each week and made sure I prepped and improved for each game to keep up. The guy is gonna have a monster championship game and he’ll shoot up the boards.
Duval Daily: That’s quite the background there! And you will be in attendance at the championship game to root him on?
Desta Danger: I may not be able to bring myself to wear a KCC jersey, but I’ll definitely be there watching to show my support.
Duval Daily: Thank you so much for this interview. Are there any last words you’d like to tell teams out there as they finalize their draft boards?
Desta Danger: If you want to make noise on Defense, come get me. I’m looking to attack offenses, not slow them down. If you don’t want to worry about game planning for me in the seasons to come, then make sure you don’t let me slip down the boards.
And there you have it! The Duval Daily Bugle was able to get the first confirmed, exclusive interview from Desta Danger! Keep your eyes peeled folks, the draft is coming and this writer has a feeling that it is loaded with talent. These next few weeks will be very interesting indeed.
