Coming fresh out of the DSFL draft as a new member of the San Antonio Marshals, BWIII has stepped up to the podium and is taking all questions.

What were your thoughts on the draft? Any surprise, positive or negative, on where you went?
To be honest, the whole draft experience was a huge whirlwind of experiences and emotions and I was completely caught up in every minute of it. As far as surprises go, I definitely was surprised being taken in the second round. I thought that being one of the later draft entries was going to drop me to being a late round pick, but looks like Ben Horne, James Brown, and I all got drafted in round two, which is cool since we signed out papers really close to each other.
Who do you measure yourself against in this current draft cohort? Any specific guys you'll be using as a measuring stick this season?
Ben Horne. I think coming in the league at right about the same time kind of puts an extra level of competitiveness to this, but really we're both different players who it'll mostly be from the perspective of putting in the work. Any hint of him slacking off though and I'll forget about him too.
Do you have any more veteran players you've noticed that you're looking to build towards? Any S7 NSFL draftees or more veteran players?
I would say there weren't really any in the S7 draft I could look towards, just because most of them seem to be rushing type linebackers. I have been looking back at tape, looking for a player similar to how I play and see how they've done and I think one of the best ones I can look towards is that of Julian O'Sullivan. This might not be an expected answer as he never led the league in anything, but he was consistent and was good at what he did and he was able to carve out a good career for himself. I think I can look at what he did as a first building block for my future, and hopefully build upon that and set myself apart.
What are your thoughts on playing for the Ultimini-reigning San Antonio Marshals?
This is probably the most ideal landing spot for me and I'm extremely excited to be in San Antonio. I think having a guy in Ricky Ramero at my position who has a DSFL season under his belt will be extremely beneficial to me and my development and having an organization who has proven they know what it takes to win a championship makes it just that much better.
Given the competition in the league this season and the larger number of sophomore players returning for a second DSFL season (looking at you Portland), what should DSFL fans expect this coming season?
I think any time you have a lot of players returning it just takes the competitive level of the league to a new level. That's just that many more players who have been there and know what they're doing, so this next season should be a lot of fun for DSFL fans. As far as teams go I haven't spent a ton of time looking at other DSFL teams yet, but I feel like we did a great job in the draft and have set ourselves up for another run.
How will you know if you're successful this season? Do you have any specific goals in mind to accomplish?
For me a successful season will be one that is marked with extreme consistency and health. If I'm able to keep on my training in a consistent manner from the first day to the last then that is how I'll define a successful season for myself. I know a lot of people get caught up in statistics, championships, and awards, and while those are nice, I'm purely looking at my time in the DSFL as a place to further my development until the time comes I'm ready to go to the big leagues.
Rickey Ramero is one of your GMs in San Antonio and a fellow rookie who was in this draft as well. He's also a LB. What are your thoughts on both of you as run stopping LBs playing together in the Marshal's front seven?
It definitely will be an added benefit and one of the reasons I'm really glad I was drafted by San Antonio. Anytime you're able to work this closely with someone who has already gone through what you're about to go through it just adds an added level of comfort and excitement because I know I can lean on him and extract as much information from him as I can. Ramero is definitely a guy I look up to and can't wait to play on the same defense as him.
Do you think that a Ultimini repeat is in the cards for San Antonio?
For sure! I don't really see any reason why it wouldn't be. I think that the management team here did a great job filling team roster with great guys this last draft and I think that we'll be a tough matchup for teams this upcoming season.
Give us a blind take on who you think will be DSFL Rookie MVP this season, feel free to include or exclude yourself.
This is a tough one. Call me superstitious, but I don't like ever picking myself for these things. I'll go on a bit of a limb, although not really much of one, and say that Chad Pennington will earn this award. Yea I know he was the first overall in this last draft, but I think he plays up to that level.

What are your ultimate goals as a player this season in San Antonio?
I think the ultimate goal of any player is to win a championship. Outside of that though I just want to be consistent in both my training and my play, as well as staying healthy. I think if I can take care of those last couple things then the first will be a real possibility.
What is more inportant to you, personal or team success?
For sure team success. I've never been one to get all caught up in my own statistics or awards or anything because I feel like if I have all of those and my team still loses like it's a failure on my part to help my team. I'd rather go in everyday and do whatever my team needs and not get any individual recognition and our entire team get all of it.
If you could be playing any other sport at a professional legel, what would it be?
I suppose it would have to be soccer. Growing up I played football, baseball, and soccer the most, and soccer is the one I had the next most success in. I was primarily a striker so stepping into the spotlight isn't something I'm uncomfortable with as I was actually a pretty good scorer.
What's the biggest accomplishement you've made in football to date?
Easy, being drafted into the DSFL
. I know most of you right now are taking this as me making a joke, but honestly I think that it actually is the biggest accomplishment I've made in football, doing what I've needed to to get to this point. I look forward to continuing my journey and hopefully the next time I answer this the answer will be a championship with the San Antonio Marshals.
