Trop’s 3-2-1 Report
Welcome to my inaugural 3-2-1 Report! The format for these articles will be as follows: 3 Observations, 2 Questions, and 1 Prediction. The simplicity of this model will allow me to analyze any event throughout the league calendar year and thus steal all of the money from the treasury whenever I need it. Without further ado, I present to you Trop’s 3-2-1 Report on the upcoming DSFL season.
3 Observations
1. The S18 class is really big.
This may be one of those “uhhhh yahhh think?” observations, but besides causing havoc in the general discord chats, the S18 class has a chance to leave their mark on the entire NSFL/DSFL eco-system. Let’s look at it from an on-the-field perspective. With over 100 players being drafted this year (around half of those being actives) it should make for some very interesting play down the stretch of the season when you have a chance for 30 maybe 40 players to be high-to-max earners. There are traditionally only ~10 players in the league that put up dominant statlines each year, so I’m curious to see the effect of an influx of talent. Will the addition of superstars cancel each other out or add more big plays on a week-to-week basis?
2. There are 8 new GMs this season.
If my count is correct then two-thirds of the GMs are new in the DSFL, including myself. The fresh bodies could bring different roster management strategies to the league. As you saw from the draft, the new crop of DSFL GMs are not afraid to trade. Although some (Saba) seem to believe in the philosophy of giving away future picks because that’s next season’s problem. Another factor that will effect roster management in an unusual way is the sheer size of the S18 class. Since there is a larger pool of guys to swap, I think that will cause GMs to make more trades trying to improve different aspects of their teams.
3. KCC has two elite receivers staying down
The Coyotes new GMs are myself and McGriddleluver, and it just so happens that both our affiliated players are receivers who were drafted to OCO. Due to the depth at the position for the Otters, Dexter Banks II and Max Lovote get another year to ball out in the DSFL. Banks II is currently maxed and Lovote should be there before the end of the season. I smell trouble for opposing Defensive Backs. Last year the pair combined for 123 receptions, 1732 yards, and 10 Touchdowns, and I expect those numbers to only improve so watch out.
2 Questions
1. Will fair rubs be given?
Regardless of which side of the sandwich aisle you fall on, I think we can all agree that the Offensive Linemen in this class deserve a fair rub. On a serious note, I am interested to see if a group of active linemen on a single team will make a big difference when it comes to offensive production. Palm Beach will likely be the test case this year because they elected to draft four Offensive Linemen, including two in the top 31 overall picks.
2. Will the 1OA pick live up to the hype?
Nobody can question the fact that ISSA is a max earner through and through; however, the fact remains that DTs are historically not productive in the DSFL because they can’t get their strength high enough in one season. For example, Bubba Thumper and Brayden Ennis were both max earners at the position and in the draft class last season. Both of them were drafted top 4 because they are going to be great players with tremendous careers, but their DSFL production was so forgettable they coined a group nickname out of it, “Two Tackle Gang”. Their COMBINED stats for the season are 50 tackles, 7 TFL, 2 FF, and 3 sacks. This is not intended as an anti-DT sub section. I’m just telling you what I’ve seen… *wait maybe I should’ve put this in the observations section*
1 Prediction
1. And your champion is…
How about we predict the eventual Ultimini champions. In my not biased opinion whatsoever, I believe the “Good Boys”, the “Purple Pups”, whatever you want to call the Kansas City Coyotes will take home the championship trophy this year. I already talked about the returning Receivers, but they also have their starting RB from last year, Octavius Godspeed, returning as well as: Jay Longshaw QB and Dominik Schultz CB. Add in what some people are calling a masterful DSFL draft and you have a juggernaut Ultimini contender.
