"Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is Bjørn Ironside reporting in from the S18 Sports Center. Just today, flyeaglesfly29 aka Lightsout Lewis approached us with league shaking news. As of tonight's loss against the Baltimore Hawks, he has decided to step away from his general manager position of the Chicago Butchers. He now has promoted @Jiggly_333 to full management of the team and has expressed his desire to test free agency."
Ironside: "Let's start with the obvious. Tonight you were brought a tough loss at the hands of the Baltimore Hawks. It was a harsh exit to what had been a decent season for Chicago. Did you come to this decision before or after the game? And when coming to this choice, did it impact any of the decisions you've made for the team up to this point?"
flyeaglesfly29: "The decision to enter free agency is something that I had already made prior to taking the field against Baltimore tonight, I just would not make it public while Chicago was still alive in the playoffs. Until our season was unfortunately ended by Baltimore I was 100% committed to our team.
In regards to decisions I made for the team up to this point, my interest in free agency had no impact. As a team we could have moved some of our players throughout the season and had the opportunity to do so, but we did not receive any deals that would have made Chicago better and that's why no one was moved."
Ironside: "Chicago is still a fairly new team and you were one of the first GMs for the Butchers. You're now looking to step down as your contract ends with the team. You've put a lot of yourself into this, so why have you chosen now to step away from a management role?"
flyeaglesfly29: "First off, I have nothing but respect for the city of Chicago and I am very blessed to have started my NSFL career with this awesome organization. I was the first player ever drafted by Chicago and I will never forget that.
In regards to my tenure as a GM, I have to first give credit for the teams success to @`To12143` and @Muford! They are the ones who built this team for the most part while I was still in my infancy as a GM. When they both decided to step down, I took over the reigns and ultimately hired on Jiggly to be my Co, which I do not regret for one second. However, I feel that the time has come for me to step down because I want to focus more on my playing career and less on the management side of things. I also understand the time that it takes to manage an entire team at this level and it is not something I feel like I can give 100% to at this time."
Ironside: "After building Chicago from the ground up, do you feel like your actions have set them up for future success?"
flyeaglesfly29: "This is where I feel like I could have done a better job from a GM standpoint. While there are some young players on this team, we are also old at a lot of positions and that could be damming in the future because "father-time" is undefeated."
Ironside: "You are leaving Chicago in the hands of your coGM Jiggly. How confident are you in his ability to run this team without your assistance?"
flyeaglesfly29: "A lot of people may not know this but Jiggly was formally a NSFL GM actually. He has a lot of experience in this league and I have a ton of faith in him. I'm not saying that it will be an easy road, but I believe that he wants to really sink his teeth in to this team and truly leave his mark as a GM."
Ironside: "Obviously, Jiggly knows of this decision and is a fairly fresh hire in the organization. Is this something he knew might happen when taking the coGM position and how has he reacted to your decision as a whole?"
flyeaglesfly29: "Before I made the decision to make Jiggly the Co in Chicago, I was sure to make him aware that this was a possibility. I would have never brought him in and then blindsided him because that's just not how I roll. In terms of reacting, he understands where I am coming from and he is going to present his case for me to stay. I plan to hear him out just like the other GMs."
Ironside: "Jiggly will now be forced to hire a coGM of his own. As one of the long time leaders of this team, are you involved in his search at all or have you completely removed yourself from management now?"
flyeaglesfly29: "I am not involved in the search for a new coGM and I will not have any say in the hiring process. Chicago is in the hands of Jiggly now and I respect any decision that he makes."
Ironside: "From what I understand, you didn't just decide to step down from leadership. It is my understanding that you are planning to test free agency this off season. Why have you closed the door on returning to Chicago at all?"
flyeaglesfly29: "I am not willing to say that I have 100% closed the door on returning to Chicago, but I am officially announcing that I will be testing the free agency market this offseason. There are a few different reasons for this:
1. Free agency excites me more than the day I was drafted and I know that might seem crazy, but this time I am the one with the power. I am finally able to choose what is best for the rest of my career moving forward.
2. I now also have the opportunity to expand my reach within the league and meet some new awesome people in the process. "
Ironside: "Had you brought this team to a championship in one of the last two seasons, do you think it changes the desire to leave now?"
flyeaglesfly29: "I really wish that I could have brought a championship to the windy city, but it just wasn't in the cards for us. At the same time, I am not sure that it would have really affected my decision making in terms of free agency. I have been excited about free agency since the day that I signed my very first contract."
Ironside: "So now that it is official that you are testing the free agency market, what are you looking for from teams that may want to acquire your services?"
flyeaglesfly29: "The thing that I believe may catch some folks off guard is that money is not what I am searching for here. The things that I am searching for are as follows:
1. A team that has a clear vision for the future.
2. A team that has a legitimate shot at competing for an Ultimus.
3. A team that has a lively locker room and guys on their team that are fun to have as team mates.
4. A team that has no issue with me being apart of their war room.
5. Lastly, a team that is open to listening to my feedback on what is best for my player in terms of being in the correct position to make plays!
I don't feel like any of those things are too much to ask for and given that I am at minimum Top 3 in this league at my position, I expect to hear from a lot of GM's very soon!"
Ironside: "As you dive into free agency, you're going to get to experience all of the excitement and buzz of being a hot commodity all over again. Last time you were in this position, it was for your draft. As you mentioned earlier there is a small difference. This time you have the power, this time is you can actually pick the team you want. Are there any teams you really hope to hear from?"
flyeaglesfly29: "There are certainly a few organizations out there that I would consider in my top 3-4 because of the current state of their teams or because of their front offices. Teams like Arizona, OCO, San Jose, come to mind initially. But I also don't want to turn off any other teams from reaching out. I am looking forward to hearing from anyone who is interested in my services."
"This comes as a surprising revelation from a young player and general manager. This will be his first chance to truly test his value on the open market and while giving up his team couldn't have been an easy choice, sometimes you have to take a step back and experience all this league has to offer. Lewis is an elite player and I'm sure organizations are salivating at this news. Meanwhile Chicago must now press on with Jiggly at their lead while potentially losing one of their best players. It should be an exciting saga as we see the paths these two carve in the off season. Lightsout Lewis has already given us exclusive rights to his team signing announcement and we will try to bring you all the updates as it happens! Until next time ladies and gentleman. Ironside signing off."
Side note, I'm loving doing these types of interviews where I break big news and show off player personalities to the league in a fun way. If you're ever interested in doing one for your own announcements, feel free to hit me up for an exclusive interview!
