I was going to make a big long post about this. I typed a lot. But I just dont want to be That guy right now
But, I feel like what I have to say is important and NEEDS to be heard.
Ive heard so many people talk about how the DSFL is toxic. How theyve never seen anything like it. And people saying wow im glad we're not like this. People act as though this is a new phenomenom.
Its not.
I pull the boomer card here, and i do so unabashedly, ecause the things I have seen in this league, it makes it impossible for me to think this is true, and quite frankly i find it a disturbing sentiment that people believe this.
This league is fun. I wouldnt have came back if I didnt like it. But I also wouldnt have left if the league wasnt toxic. I wont get into things deeply, but let me tell you that HO history is riddled with NSFL GMs and normal users alike being incredibly awful to them and making their lives a living hell, quite literally affecting their real lives.
Its foolish to think this is a thing of the past. Because its not. I can tell you that for sure right now that toxicity still lives on in NSFL GM culture. we, as a community, need to stop predending this is isolated.
The biggest issue is simple, people here think their words have no effect. Forgiving and forgetting is something I wish i was good at, and it is something that I could really use in my life. But very simply, there are many people currently in power, whether in HO, the appellate board, the advisory board, or NSFL GMs, who have said incredibly hurtful things to me or others and just not thought it was a big deal. They say these things for years, and then turn around and talk like they didnt say anything bad. Then they wonder why you are so paranoid and broken.
I get thats the internet, I get that im probably just not cut out for this. But basically, the key is accountability. People need to take accountability for what they said. Take accountability for their actions. I am many things, but I think I at least know when to say I messed up. People here need to do the same.
Stop complaining about how toxic others are. Look inside, and think about the toxicity you have caused. And work to make it right. Only then can we as a league prosper
