Before I talk about what I would do for my expansion franchise I want to stress for the league to be careful, while we might have enough actives to field 14 NSFL teams right now the thinking should be whether or not we could sustain those teams with enough actives every draft. Let’s say each team needs 18 players (plus five OL bots or human). At the minimum I imagine in a single draft you would want at least 2 actives per team, close to 3 would be much better. So 14 x 3 = 42. In each class about half the prospects go inactive fairly quickly. So we would need draft classes of about 84 players each season to sustain the league. The recruitment team would have to be sure they could get those kinds of numbers. My expansion team brand would put the team in the northeastern United States. Probably a New York team. I hate NY in real life but it would make sense for this league. They would be in the NSFC conference and become rivals with Philadelphia and Baltimore. As for the coloring and team I would go for some kind of Wall Street money theme. Teams colors would be silver and money green. It’s pretty hard to have an original color at this point but I like the sounds of that. The team name would be the Charging Bulls. The team logo would obviously be a bull. This is to honor that bronze bull statue they have near wall street. My coGM would be Jamar Lackson, I don’t know who he is on the forums but he hangs out in the KCC LR and would be up for the task. We have a Canada based team in the NSFL already, Yellowknife, but I think the NSFL could expand its northern offerings. The NSFL seems to have a theme of avoiding the bigger markets: Orange County rather than LA, Austin rather than Dallas or Houston (Dallas being used in the DSFL), and Sarasota rather than Miami or Tampa. So I wouldn't choose Toronto or Vancouver, I would go with Halifax. They recently lost their SHL team so I think it is only fair they get something to replace it. My original idea was to expand more in Europe, such as Berlin. Berlin previously had a football team called the Thunder. So I think we can steal that for Halifax to create the Halifax Thunder. Obviously since it is my expansion team, Joseph Joestar would move there to be the starting quarterback of the future. No doubt we would win like 10 Ultimus in a row. Halifax would pick up the slack that Yellowknife was creating and turn Canada into a football powerhouse. Choking in the playoffs would be a thing of the past, and most of Canada's fanbase would turn on the Wraiths to support the new Thunder. The Wraiths would eventually rebrand to like the Wyoming Wraiths or something stupid before folding.

Written Option: There’s been a lot of talk about expansion drafts and what might be in store for the league going forward. If you were in charge of creating an expansion franchise, what would you name it and where would the team be located? In 200 words or more, describe why you picked that name and location and explain why your franchise would make a good NSFL team.

I believe I don't currently have the time or abilities to really lead an expansion franchise, so I think the best theme for a bid from my would involve focusing on the teamwork needed to actually make the endeavor a success. And when I personally think about a team performing well when working together, the term that comes to mind is 'like a well-oiled machine'. And thinking of machines that move very smoothly and terrify their opponents, I think of the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day. That movie took place in Los Angeles, and so my suggestion would be The Los Angeles Terminators. "LAT" or "The Terminators" would naturally be located in Anaheim stadium because the city council there loves to have big teams come in and not mention the city's name. For colors, I'm thinking silver (matching the T-1000's liquid metal form) plus black (matching the aesthetic of the movie as well as various biker gear worn by the characters). I'm additionally hoping that the silver could be reflective enough to partially blind the opposing team and provide a tactical advantage.
I think Los Angeles is certainly large enough to support a second NSFL team as studied by famous academic journal The Onion and I think it would allow for some great rivalries against the Otters. The teams would be close enough that fans could move between stadiums in 4-6 hours if traffic is light, and there are multiple airports in the area for other visiting teams. LA has dozens of people living there, so I think it would be very possible for at least a couple of them to get interested in a new team. Probably the hardest part would be licensing the name, but it could also lead to some good crossover opportunities with Hollywood movies. Maybe a heartwarming kid's movie about the team getting help from actual terminators? Terminators in the Backfield sounds catchy!

Here are you, minding your own business, watching Jelle’s Marble Racing in your bedroom, when suddenly you get warped into a shiny silver metallic room. You sigh. “Again?” you think.

You walk out of the room and down the hallway to a set of doors. As you push them open, you insert your babel fish into your ear. “C’mon guys,” you say as you enter the room.

Inside the room is a large table that is clearly designed for meetings. Apparently, some things are just universal. At the table sit 2 humanoid aliens, both slightly purple, both wearing caps that sport the NSFL logo on them.

“We wish to speak to yoooou again about the unfairness of fooooootball,” voices one of purple beings. “We have given yoooou sufficient time to make a decision. Incluuuuude us or be destroyed.”

“Guys, guys,” you say as you swing into a seat. “I told you; you’re stronger than us, taller than us, and have an extra limb. Everyone says it’s unfair if you form your own team.”

“We have promised to uuuuuuse our third limb for only high fives,” beeped the second purple being.

“What about the extra 3 feet each? What about the fact that you can each pick up 300 pounds with each hand?”

“We assuuuuuuure you that we will hold back our strength.” The purple being shuddered indignantly.

“Yeah, that’s not going over well with the commissioner,” you say as you study your nails.

The two aliens suction their third limb together, apparently a method of conferencing amongst their kind. The discussion seems heated, as multiple colors pass through their bodies and angry hissing noises get emitted from random parts of their body. Eventually, a consensus is reached.

“Very well,” one of the aliens say. “We agree to not form our own team, but we will join your teams. Each team gets one Zaphod, and we will live and train on Earth with yoooou. In exchange, yoooou will make a team on our planet.”

“Your planet’s gravity is twice of ours!” you exclaim.

“We will build an artificial gravity chamber to play fooooootball.”

“Huh. That actually sounds okay.” You stand up and start walking to the exit chamber.

“Speak to your people and let us know. We will delay destroying your planet for twooooo more days.” The aliens attempt to sound ominous, but their happy beeps and high fives destroy the mood.

“One sec,” you say as one of the aliens set up the exit protocol. “I need a name for your team.”

“We will be the X Æ A-12’s!” the aliens beep happily.

“So that’s how you say it,” you think before you shimmer back into your bedroom.

I would name my expansion team in honor of my favourite teammate during my time in the NSFL, Thiath. Thiath was unanimously loved by the locker room in Sarasota, and he often talked about his desire to make an expansion team in Brooklyn. His constant talk of leaving to form a new expansion team may have alienated smaller people, but for me it instilled a great desire to see the NSFL’s Brooklyn franchise become a reality. Now that Thiath is no longer in the league after rage quitting for a reason I’m not totally sure of, it is my time to step up and fulfil our shared dream of bringing the NSFL to Brooklyn. I will call my team the Brooklyn Bombers. Unfortunately due to the restrictions that would surround building a stadium in Brooklyn, we will instead play our games in New Jersey. I would hope that the team gets placed in the NSFC. Sharing a conference with the Otters, Second Line and Copperheads sounds like a headache that I’d want my team to avoid. Honestly, when it comes to explaining why Brooklyn would be a good location, the answer is “I don’t know”. I am just hoping to fulfil the dream of a great teammate.

If I was in charge of creating the expansion franchise, I would establish the Las Vegas Leopards. The city of Las Vegas is a booming market with many opportunities for sports franchises. This can be seen in the cases of the Golden Knights in the NHL and the Raiders in the NFL. Additionally, imagine the home field advantage for the Leopards. Out of town teams will come, party, get no sleep, and be in no position to play at game time. Not to mention signing free agents. Las Vegas is an attractive location for new players to sign. The weather, luxury, food, famous people, Las Vegas has everything that a young athlete would want. As for the mascot, the Leopard mascot makes sense because there are no wildcat/jaguar/panther mascots in the NSFL or DSFL. Big cat mascots are very popular and the NSFL should take follow the trend. The leopard is a predator that would put fear in opponents’ hearts. Not to mention the color scheme for leopards would make some cool uniforms. The spotted leopard look could create some stellar alternate jerseys as well. Jersey sales would be through the roof. Las Vegas certainly needs an expansion, whether they be the Leopards or not, but who doesn’t love alliteration. The time is overdue for a big cat mascot in the NSFL or DSFL.
