If it were me creating the expansion team, I'd be putting it somewhere in Australia to provide the league with even more international representation. While we all know leagues like the NFL and CFL are so focused on their home nations, it's great to see more variety in the sim leagues we call our home.
My pick for the specific location would be either Melbourne, or one of the surrounding suburbs. Melbourne is a cultural and sporting hub in Australia and with such a significant amount of sports fans it would be the best city to draw a good and regular crowd. I love team names with alliteration, so I'd be likely to name the team just to suit that - even if it didn't make the most sense (Melbourne Marauderers, Geelong Gorrilas, Ballarat Blunderers, something like that) The franchise being based in a yet un-exploitedtapped market means that even though it's based specifically in a city/area, it should see the support and fandom of many others around the oceanic area - people from Sydney probably wont be so keen on it but the revenue fans it could bring would be a tremendous help to the league in all aspects. It would also be the best type of football in Australia. ![]() ![]()
To spice things up a little bit, I would add an expansion team to Europe. I think the sport should look into expanding to new markets and for that reason, a country like Germany would be a solid option. Germany has won three of the last five European Championships. Germany as a nation has a strong culture of watching sports. The live atmosphere is loud and full of energy due to the fans chanting and playing a part in the games, in my opinion, it would be a perfect fit.
Braunschweig or Brunswick has a long and successful history in the sport, the local team has won multiple national championships over years, so I would look into the possibility of adding the expansion team there. The local fans would have no trouble supporting the team. Brunswick is not that far away from bigger cities like Hannover, Bremen, Hamburg, and even Berlin, so getting people to come over and watch from nearby cities should be at least in theory possible. I still believe its important to add the team into a place that has a deep connection to the sport, not just add the team to the biggest city, and hope it goes well. Finally the name of the team, I would name the team: Brunswick Hounds. Animal-related themes are popular in every sport, so I´m going to stick that and chose the fairly simple concept of city name + animal, in this case, a hound, which opens a lot of options for creativity with the logo and merchandise for example. ![]() Thanks Slothman07! ![]() Team name: Scotland Savages Colours: Blue/White/Silver - Representative of both the modern Scottish flag and also the blue paint that Pictish warriors would paint themselves in before battle. Even at the height of the Roman Empire the fierce Pict warriors of Caledonia were able to prevent the Roman army from conquering their lands. The savage warriors time and time again would get the best of highly trained Roman forces until, sick of it, an entire Roman Legion was sent into Caledonia to deal with the Picts. The legion was never heard from again. The Picts were so fierce the Romans eventually built a wall from coast to coast to defend themselves from the Northern tribes. I think that's a pretty cool basis for a team. Hamish MacAndrew #20 - Safety - Austin Copperheads - [Player Profile - Update Thread - Wiki page - Twitter]

As more and more members of the NSFL are located in Europe, i would go for a team from there. And what country would be more fitting than Austria, located right in the heart of the Continent. I admit, that Austria would seem a bit odd, as the market for a team there seems to be a little small, but don't think too fast. The community is rising at a fast pace and the excitement for NSFL football is growing by the minute.
The team would be called the Lichtenau Roly-Poly Bumblebees. And the name would be fitting as the people around there are known to be stout. They are absolute beasts and every Lineman would be proud to be equipped with that physical talents. With that army of hometown fans every visiting team will be scared to even get on the field, as every single one of the fans could easily send the biggest football player to the ground. It would be absolutely terrifying playing in a stadium called the Basement, built into the pit of an old, closed quarry. With an home field advantage like that in the back hand an even record is nearly guaranteed. It wouldn't take the Bumblebees very long to establish themselves at the very top of the league. In a future expansion, I would love to create a team in Des Moines, Iowa. An expansion team right in the middle of the country would allow accessibility for countless football-starved fans in Iowa and surrounding areas. Iowa is the perfect place for a football team. Why? There's nothing else to do! College teams get the attention of all Iowans, and a professional team would attract the most reliable fans in North America.
As for team branding: I propose that we call this team the Iowa Corn. This may sound familiar to those of you that paid attention to the prospect bowl this season, as the Corn have already been tested on the field. The color scheme would be green & gold, representing the corn's stalk and grain colors, with the added bonus of being the same as John Deere's color scheme. Hall so graciously created a nice logo of an ear of corn with markings on it to make it look like a football. They would play in John Deere Stadium, nicknamed "The Cornfield." Have you ever seen one of the greatest sports movies of all time, which is set in Iowa, "Field of Dreams"? If you build it, they will come, and they will be coming to Iowa in the next expansion!
If I was chosen to create a new expansion franchise, I would have two main goals for the new team: pick a location that is under represented in professional sports and pick an unique mascot. I think a good example of this would be the Yellowknife Wraiths, who picked Yellowknife, a place that I did not know existed and I don't think has any professional teams, and the "Wraiths" which is a pretty original mascot.
First, we need to find a new city with an awesome name. There are a few good candidates, there is a place near where I grew up called Dinosaur, Colorado. There is a town in Canada named Moosejaw, there is a number of places called simply "Hell" and "Monkey's Eyebrow" is a place in Kentucky. However, I am going to settle with Bismarck, North Dakota because it represents a region in the United States which doesn't get a lot of media attention and I think 'Bismarck' has a cool sound to it. Now, we need a mascot. The easy pick is the 'Bismarck Bison' as Bison are native to the area and you get that nice alliteration. I think the 'Bismarck Oilers" could also work, since the main industry in the state is oil. I don't like it because oil is quickly becoming less prominent as more green technologies are taking over, so I am going with the Bison.
If I had to create a team to be incorporated into the NSFL, the first thing I would look at is where would a team thrive due to population, economy, and sporting competition. One area of the US where the NSFL is not represented is the Pacific North West so we will start in that corner of the country. Portland, Oregon does have a DSFL team but the closest NSFL team is either Colorado or San Jose. To narrow my search I have found that the Seattle area has a lot of money but there is already another league who calls Seattle home and I don't think a second football team could be supported profitably inside the city limits but maybe one could be supported close by. Some cities close to Seattle include Tacoma, Olympia, and even Vancouver Canada. Each city has specific opportunities and challenges. Tacoma is the closest to Seattle so would benefit the most by leeching revenue from the large city. Olympia is the state capital so local government might help a lot since investing in us would also be an investment in their own city. Finally, Vanouver B.C. would possibly be a good place to invest as it would only be our second Canadian franchise and it would increase our viewership there, as long as it doesn't compete with hockey. Some names off the top of my head would be Tacoma Timberwolves, Olympia Orcas, or Vancouver Grizzly. Any iconography would be planned with the help of First Nation governments and peoples local to the area.
