….isn’t a problem.
I’m sorry, but this recent tirade against the grading team can just be put to bed. I thought about implementing a few changes and making things more strict, but honestly, I’m not going to.
Hear me out here.
The media team is awesome okay? These guys and gals have made the ISFL’s media team the best in the sim world. And it wasn’t always that way here. Articles and podcasts are graded with quickness, and fairness. We do, indeed, discuss “questionable” articles. Usually, I make the call on what to do. That’s my job. I don’t want anyone shitting on the graders themselves, so I can take anyone coming to me with any issues.
I have some hard rules we stick to and won’t change for sure (Sorry podcast guys). But for the most part, we’re pretty soft on letting things go. This site, if you forgot, is supposed to be for FUN for people. Having others nitpick everything is just part of this site, so I get why opinions come to play. But, we don’t need your opinions. That’s so rough to say it that way, and it'll probably be the most quoted part of this little speech, but 98% of the time we’re A-OK. And the times that someone has a question or a comment on their article or payout, they’ve come to me. And I’ve personally fixed many problems without having the site explode.
I’m reasonable. I’m available most of the day and night to chat. I tend to side with the player most of the time.
I’m not making sweeping changes because of what’s happened lately. We don’t have to.
Personally, I LOVE character driven articles. I used to write a lot about Carlito Crush’s backstory and made it a ton of fun. Some people on this site enjoy that aspect. I’m not going to punish them because its not always just about football here. There’s a lot of us that don’t want to talk about just yards, triple options, and tackles. Some of us want to talk about what else they do with their player and that’s cool. I understand that writing media is really hard for a lot of people on the site but they’re doing it to make money for equipment and stuff. I’m not going to start telling my team to strictly grade these articles, because that’s just going to hurt players who will most likely go inactive if they’re shut down like that. And the ones that complain are the lifers that aren’t going anywhere for the most part.
Yes, there are definitely articles that stray too far from this for sure. And in the past we’ve cut the pay down on these specific articles, or we’ve found articles that are clearly just using creative ways to up the word count. And we don’t fully pay them out. But the leniency for an article that maybe talks about something for 500 words isn’t going to get cut down as much as one that does it for 5000. That should be understandable. We let the smaller things slide, because again, its supposed to be fun.
For example, we had to cut down Tesla’s ginormous article because of a lot of repetitive things that others saw as word count fluffing, and it happens. I don’t love doing that. To anyone.
Now, the article in question that started this whole mess? I’ll take the blame for all of this. I personally dropped the ball on how it was handled and I can own that. My team questioned it, and I took a quick look at it and said not to grade it, planning to handle it later. I didn’t. The truth is, the day in question, I wasn’t okay mentally. Like I’m talking really bad anxiety attack, and the worst I felt in forever. I wasn’t okay. Im better now, but that lead into my surgery day that ended up getting cancelled and it was a rush to get it rescheduled, and needless to say that the media piece in question sure didn’t get questioned for a few days longer than it needed to. This truly isn’t meant to be a sob story, even though, fuck, it’s a doozy of one. I really just want to be honest and explain how what happened, happened.
A few hours after my surgery, I was on Hydrocodone and sleeping as most would be i'd think, lol. Isa showed me 10 examples of things we allowed and was mad that we didn’t grade the other article yet. I thought he knew about the surgery so I said I’m crippled and high and cant argue him at that point. I passed back out. I woke up to that statement being posted into the “Dear Media Team” thread and was a bit surprised. Isa was a gentleman and apologized and I hold ZERO against him and I appreciate him for apologizing.
The point of this is that I didn’t even get the chance to discuss the article before it blew up on site. But that’s all on me, and I fucked up. Don’t blame Schwarz, Isa, the media team, anyone. That’s on your friend Joe K here, and I own it.
I’m sorry it didn’t get handled like it should’ve in this instance. I’ll work on preventing that from happening again.
The point of all of this is to explain how we got to that point. To claim the blame as well. But the main point here is that this media team has been doing a great job, and quite frankly we’re going to keep doing things the way we’ve been doing them, with a few split ends cut off.
Keep writing those character driven articles. Yes, if you have an excessive amount of nonsense, it won’t get graded as much as you’d like it to. We won’t put limits on it. My graders are smart cookies who know when enough is enough. A little bit of off topic is fine, just like it’s fine in a podcast. We’ll continue to discuss articles that may be artificially inflating word counts and making decisions on them as they come. Good research continues to get good bonuses. But we can still have some fun out there, because again, that’s what this is about. Thank you for your ideas and opinions, but we’re okay right now.
As long as people proceed to NOT abuse our systems, we’ll stay okay. If we get out of hand, and we somehow get forced to be super strict, all it does is hurt the little guys here. Let’s take less of a focus off of writing 275,949 words, or being the richest person ever because quite frankly, it doesn’t really matter. It’s fake money people. And again, the only people who will get truly fucked are going to be the ones that need the help to survive here and perhaps it’ll lead to them getting frustrated and going inactive. It’s why we can’t have 2x media anymore, for example. Either way, the psychopaths like me are always going to be here.
I love you all, and I’m sorry for how I fucked this little mess up. But that’s on me, not anyone else.
Thanks for reading, now get writing.
