Following Week 7, the first player that comes to mind on the Sarasota Sailfish that is an awards contender is Haha Mango-Panda. I think he is an easy nominee for Linebacker of the Year. Despite being middle of the pack for tackles, he has 7 sacks (T-1st), 2 INTs (T-1st), 9 PDs (T-2nd), and a recovered fumble (T-2nd). In all but tackles, he is at the top of the board which, in my eyes, should get him a nomination at the least. As the season continues, his numbers should only go up. He is averaging 1 sack per game right now, which projects to 16 for the season. If he can manage an additional 3 sacks in the next 9 games, that makes 19, and puts him tied for 7th all-time for annual sack leaders. If he keeps those numbers up, I can see him being nominated for Defensive Player of the Year, but that category can be a tough one to win.

The next Sailfish that I think can get a nomination is James Angler. The TE/FB was the receiving yards leader after Week 5 (if I remember correctly), and is currently 4th overall for receiving yards. Despite a slight drag in performance recently, I see no reason why it won't spike up again. I feel like he may be ineligible for TEoY, as was the case last season, but I think that being the most targeted weapon of the pass-heavy Sailfish should earn him an Offensive Player of the Year nomination.

Looking through the 1-3 birddogs roster doesn't exactly spark many mvp or even best in position conversations.
The one true contender we have thus early in the season is the ridiculously talented running back - Zoe Watts. Watts is right there in the upper echelon when it comes to DSFL running backs, with a league leading 3 touch downs Watts has been putting her insane speed to good use. Breaking a number of long runs off including a big 68 metre rush.
Her main competition comes in the forms of Captain Rogers and Skrills. Both have had a higher number of attempts and made more yards but as the season goes on we'll see what happens.
It wouldn't be right to submit this PT without giving the honourable mention to Raylan Crowder. At the moment he has very impressive tackling stats for a DE with 33% more than the next highest. If Crowder can put up more "sexy" stats over the rest of the season in TFLs and sacks. If he can boost these numbers he can rocket into contention for best defensive end in the DSFL. He isn't anywhere near the stage of defensive MVP but who knows what the weeks could bring. Crowder has maxed his speed and is close to doing the same for his strength.

The Grey Ducks are a run-heavy team. With having almost twice as many rushing yards as passing yards, the Grey Ducks’ top two running backs are both in contention for offensive rookie of the year. James Vermillion has 292 yards on 58 attempts, along with 3 rushing touchdowns. Vermillion is also deadly in the return game. He had a 73-yard return in the game against Tijuana, a play that was essential in the 30-25 win for the Grey Ducks. Vermillion is also a receiving threat, recording 3 receptions for 25 yards on a team that struggles to find any consistency in the passing game.

Grey Ducks RB Mike Rotchburns is the power to Vermillion’s speed. He has 58 rushing attempts on the season for 291 yards. He also has 2 rushing touchdowns on the season. While it may seem clear that Vermillion is having a better season, Rotchburns has been able to gain rushing yards on a much more consistent basis. With his longest rush only being for 19 yards, Mike Rotchburns still has an impressive 5 yards per carry on the season. Vermillion on the other hand has more big-play potential, with a rushing long of 82 yards. Both RBs are at the top of their rookie class and both should be in contention for ROY at the end of the season.

It's about time that Deshun Jones gets recognized for all of his hard work. Jones an S22 player is playing in his 4th season when you include his DSFL time has been keeping his head down getting tackles, getting sacks, getting pass deflections, getting tackles for losses with no recognition. It's about time that I stand up for my player and make an argument that he should win an award. Yes, the fact that there is a point task about this topic is why I am making this argument. But this is the year that Deshun Jones should be recognized as the line backer of the year. You may be saying to yourself why is Forty Jordy making this argument, his player is still young. He still has 4 or 5 years before he regresses. But I say back to you he is the greatest of all time, there should be no reason to not recognize him. Enough talk let's look at his stats. He is tied with Haha-Mango Panda for most sacks. But Panda plays for Sailfish and has more TPE than Jones which I have no clue why and that makes me mad. Plus he doesn't even have a tackle for loss. Therefore, Jones is the best and make him the winner.

As far as the DSFL goes, technically we're closer to a 1/4th of the way through the season rather than halfway, but the Portland Pythons do have a number of people with a good shot at awards.

First off, as the only kicker so far with no missed kicks whatsoever, including 5 taken between the 40-49, Pseudo QB is definitely in the driver's seat in terms of Kicker of the Year. Blago Kokot is also probably in the lead for the best punter of the year, as he leads the league in average punt distance, is one off the lead in terms of kicks inside the 20, and the only people close to him in any stats are hurt in others: Melvin Murder Moose is the only one within 3 yards of Kokot's average punt distance, and Moose has less than half of the punts of Kokot. Jake Fencik is the only one with more punting yards, but has that due to 7 more punts, has a much worse average, and has half of the ones inside the 20 despite having 30 punts to Kokot's 23. Korbin Brown is the easy leader for Kick Returner of the Year due to having the most yards, the best average, and the only touchdown.

But the main focus has to be on Donald McBobby, with his 28 tackles, 1 for loss, 3 sacks, an interception, and a pass deflection. He has to be considered one of the top candidates for Defensive Player of the Year, Linebacker of the Year, and Defensive Rookie of the Year.

There is a number of honourable mentions for Norfolk including the sensational running back pairing of Captain Rodgers and Q. Skrills which makes the players feet even more fantastic and has to be the front leader for MVP. The player is my QB S. Ramza, Ramza has been on fire this season considering the above mentioned have been taking alot of plays out of his hands and he has still managed to produce. Ramza has been a ridiculously efficient passer this season. He currently has a 70.5% completion rate while throwing for 653 yards and 8 touchdowns. Completion rate is the highest in the league and it's not even close (second sitting at 58%).The yardage total is currently 4th among all QBs only 285 yards off the leading quarterback. Touchdown total is currently joint top amongst the quarterbacks in the league. The most impressive part, these are only on 88 attempts a league low compared to the other starting QBs in the league having almost double they attempts ranging from 109 to 160. Ramza is on par to beat the single season record for TDs both team record and season record already. When you compare all these statistics it proves he is producing sensationally high stats at the minimal volume. This is why Ramza should be in contention for MVP if not the front runner when the season is over.

Norfolk have one player who will set a record this season, without any shadow of a doubt. "Who's that?" I hear you ask. Could it be Captain Rogers and his rushing touchdowns legacy? Could it be Suleiman Ramza? Clawing that touchdowns record piece by piece? No, it's neither and shame on you for your touchdown focused approach. The obvious choice is the Murder-Moose. She's currently on track for the record for Point Afters Attempted. That's right, attempted. There's nothing quite like the feeling of lining up a kick and watching it sail in frankly any direction. It's not what the result is, it's what the kick implies. You're attempting a POINT AFTER. Not a field goal, oh no. We don't need a measly 3 points? We've already scored six. And with the help (Sometimes) of the Murder-Moose we may gain one more. Don't think I'm implying that the Moose misses many. Quite the opposite, 15/17. She has made more than a combo of a lot of teams in the league. An attempt of seventeen so far with a tonne more to come? Yes, I think Melvin Murder-Moose will set the record for Point Afters Attempted. In fact, there's no doubt in my mind.

Brock Phoenix should be the frontrunner for the S24 Defensive Performance of the Year Award for his performance for the Philadelphia Liberty against the Colorado Yeti in Week 5. At first glance, his stats look okay, but not especially award-worthy. Phoenix had four tackles and a pass deflection, playing defensive tackle. It’s true that four tackles is a good mark for a defensive lineman (only Sarasota’s Big Edd, Honolulu’s Jayson Kearse and Austin’s Carolinabbq Isbest are averaging more than four tackles per game) and adding a pass deflection to that is impressive, but why was this the Defensive Performance of the Year?

The answer is that Brock Phoenix is a quarterback. Rules VII. B. 3, VII. B. 4 and VII. B. 6 state that a quarterback playing defensive tackle is illegal, but sources claim the referees and league office were just so impressed by Phoenix’s performance that they felt it wrong to enforce the rules. After leading a twelve-play offensive drive for Philadelphia at the end of the first quarter, most quarterbacks would be on the sidelines recovering from any hits they’d taken and preparing for the next drive. Not Brock Phoenix. Phoenix played a key role in forcing a Colorado three-and-out, using his 6’5 frame to bat down a Wolfie McDummy pass at the line of scrimmage on 2nd and 6.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Hamilton Heartbreaker followed this up with a thirteen play touchdown drive on offence before getting right back into the action on defence. Colorado’s next series ended in a three-and-out too, thanks to key tackles on 2nd and 3rd down by (you guessed it) Phoenix. Brock Phoenix would make a key tackle on the next defensive drive too, bringing down running back Thubba Bumper at the line of scrimmage to set up another three-and-out.

To have such a big impact on a game is impressive, but to do so from the defensive line, playing every snap on both sides of the ball is truly unprecedented. There has been no other defensive performance like this in the ISFL this season – and if the league rules are adhered to in future then there won’t be another – and, as such, Brock Phoenix is deserving of the S24 Defensive Performance of the Year award.
