Hello everyone, WildfireMicro here with ISFL for Dummies, a (mostly) definitive beginners guide to the International Simulation Football League. Now some of you guys might be saying "didn't this place used to be called the National Simulation Football League?" And to that I say yes, but turns out having the initials NSFL sometimes attracts the wrong kind of people. So we went through a rebranding and a fourm change last season.
Now before we start I just want to say don't take the name of this guide at face value. I am not calling you people dummies, you could be very intelligent people. It's simply a parody of the "For Dummies" series of books. I know if i don't put that disclaimer somebody somewhere is gonna take it seriously. Ok disclaimer over, let's get started.
Chapter 1: Player Creation.
If you are reading this, I am gonna assume you already have registered for the site, and if you haven't and you do want to join the league go ahead and do that. After that, also go ahead and join the ISFL discord server because they are a big help to newbies. But now I know you want to make a player, so go ahead and start a new topic in the Create a Player sub-fourm. The format for the topic title will be (Draft Year) (aka the year you will be drafted into)- Player name- position abbreviation (for example LB for Linebacker and QB for quarterback). For example, (S56) Drake Patrick LB.
After that you need a player Archetype. These represent what kind of player your player will be at thier respective positions. For example, a Run Stopping Linebacker will be great at stopping the run, and a pocket passer QB will be great at throwing the ball but no so much at running. These Archetypes also help you post your player stats. The best way to do this is using the Player Template, which also an easy template for you to make your player creation post with. Trust me, it helps a lot more then me just telling you how to format your post.
Also use the Player Creation Fourm to help spend your stats. It is a huge help for when you are just starting out, and can be useful to remember when you need to make an update but don't remember how TPE gains would go. You can find the Player Creation Fourm in the official Rookie Guide. "But WildfireMicro" I hear you asking "why are you making this if there is a Rookie Guide?" Well, for League money (we will go over that later) for one, and because I am bored, and I might have some tips for you that the guide doesn't. By the way the TPE Cost goes like this:
0-50 - costs 1 TPE to go up 1 point
50-70 - costs 2 TPE to go up 1 point
70-80 - costs 5 TPE to go up 1 point
80-90 - costs 10 TPE to go up 1 point
90-100 - costs 15 TPE to go up 1 point
So yeah, it depends on how much TPE, which stands for Total Points Earned the way, you have if you'll be able to improve your player. I suggest remembering these. Sometimes you will have to decide wherever to improve multiple stats or put them all into a single one. Thankfully there are plenty of people in the Discord who can help with builds.
Basically show how much you're improving the stat and how much TPE you're spending. After you finish your player post, post it and wait for someone to ether approve it or tell you how you could fix it and get it eventually approved. Now that you have your player, you will be added into the upcoming Developmental Simulation Football League draft and, depending on when you made your player, may be claimed on waivers to play on a DSFL team. You will told to make an update page and that leads us into:
Chapter 2: Updating
Alright time to make an update page. Because at this point your player hasn't been drafted yet, put it in Unassigned Player Updates. Copy the text from your Create a Player page for it. When you have earned TPE from Point Tasks for example (which we will go over in the Money and Tasks chapter) you would copy the link from the actual Claim post itself, NOT from the Claim post itself. "But WildfireMicro" I hear you asking "how do I get the post link? I don't see a way" well here's how you do it: if you're on PC its easy. To the right side there will be a post number. Right click it and an option to copy the link will appear.
If you're on mobile (at least in the Oprea browser I am using, and I think on Firefox too idk about other browsers) you also go over to that number and hold it until an option to Copy Link Address appears. NOT Copy Link *Text*, Copy Link *Address*. Now that you have the link to the Claim post, make a little room in your update post and make a Full Edit. Put your cursor where you have room (I suggest below player information but above stats) and press the Link Button that looks like...well, a chain link.
When you click it, fill out the URL section with the link itself and put the Task name in the section below along with how much TPE you earned. Now edit the stat you want to change whatever stat you want provided you have the TPE to do it. For example, here is how I update my stats:
55-56 Intelligence, 2 TPE Spent
Now when I say "edit the stat" I mean edit one of the stats you copied from the Create a Player page, which you did do right? Anyways players usually get updated every Sunday provided its not the Offseason. When you updated, copy the text from your update post, copy it into a new reply, get rid of the point tasks and edits you did earlier (make sure your stats represent the new stats you have. For example if you updated your Speed from 79 to 80, your speed should now stay at 80 until you update it again). Now your probably wondering how to get TPE. Well that leads into:
Chapter 3: Money and Tasks
Now you have a new player to update and mess with. But you need TPE and League Money (don't worry, its not *Real* money its just League money you earn). So how do get those? Say hello to Money and Tasks! First we will go over Money. When I say Money I mean the League Money you earn from contracts and contributing to the League. You can contribute to the league by writing media about it such as stories about your character and League articles, podcasts about the league, and even Player Graphics if you're artistically inclined. You use this money to buy Weekly Training for various amounts (though if you're earning a lot of money from your contributions, just get 1 million every time it's 5 TPE for you) and buying equipment before every season. The Equipment costs are:
Tier 1 Equipment - 5 TPE - $2,000,000
Tier 2 Equipment - 10 TPE - $4,000,000
Tier 3 Equipment - 15 TPE - $6,000,000
Tier 4 Equipment - 20 TPE - $8,500,000
Tier 5 Equipment - 25 TPE - $11,000,000
Tier 6 Equipment - 30 TPE - $13,500,000
Yeah the top tier equipment is not cheap. Luckily you don't have to buy it all at once, you can upgrade to a bigger one you just need to pay the difference. Another way to get TPE is weekly Activity checks, which is the easiest 2 TPE you'll ever make. You just need to post your player name in the Activity check thread that opens every Sunday and BOOM you are good! You can even instantly claim this along with the Weekly Training. Now Point Tasks are different. They are essentially 200 word essays given every week on a certain topic, though there is a graphics option for you to just make a graphic about it if you're good enough at those.
When you have finished your essay or graphic, post it in THE THREAD ITSELF not in Media. "But WildfireMicro how do I post a graphic?" Well you press the button that looks like a picture and put the image URL into it. If you don't have an Image URL, you can find an app to get one (my suggestion is QuickImgur if you're on Android though it may be on IPhone. I am sure there is also a way on PC). If you're part of the PBE, SHL, or
GOMHL you can link your completed PT there to instantly get credit for the ISFL PT. (Though this guide is more for those that aren't). Now DON'T claim this UNTIL a post is made in the Claim Thread, which is for you to Claim PTs and Predictions when they are graded.
Chapter 4: Prospect Bowl and The DSFL Draft
Basically the Prospect Bowl is where you're undrafted player first gets to play provided you weren't claimed on waivers. Basically its a showcase for your player to strut thier stuff to potential teams. Keep this in mind though: your player won't have any updates you out in them after you made your player, so don’t get discouraged if your player doesn't do well. Besides teams are looking more at activity then play style. Basically a good way to ne drafted early by a DSFL team is too be active and contribute.
It is around this time that you will be scouted by DSFL teams and be invited into team Discords. Although you won't be able to get into the inner locker rooms to prevent any rule breaking. You will be sent private messages via the site or Discord and will answer various questions so they can get a gage on who you are and what kind of player you will be. The scouts are usually super nice and are usually the GMs, so be nice and honest. Trust me they appreciate honesty.
The DSFL draft is always a few days after the ISFL one, usually the Wednesday after. When you get picked you will get access into the inner locker rooms of the Discords. You can stay in the othet tesms Discords if you wish, though you obviously can't get into thier inner locker rooms. Your update page will also be moved into the teams roster update pages.
Chapter 5: Conclusion
If there is one thing I want to come out of this guide, its that I helped at least one person. I mostly made this to get League money and honestly this is one of the longest medias I have ever made. But still I hope you enjoyed it and I hope I have helped at least someone with something. WildfireMicro out.
Now before we start I just want to say don't take the name of this guide at face value. I am not calling you people dummies, you could be very intelligent people.
