(S26) - PT 1 - Keep the Change You Filthy Animal

Last season ended with some mixed emotions for L’Gazzy Burfict; defeated in the Ultimini but recipient of both the LBotY and DofY awards for the season, despite a fluttering of tactical voting. And from there it’s been all go with Burfict being called up by the Outlaws to represent them this coming ISFL season.

Thankfully a whole seasons worth of pretty much max TPE was there to be called on which means he’s looking in pretty good shape. He’s maxed himself out for Speed, Strength and Hands during a rigorous pre-season training schedule with the hope that he’ll be able to push himself and challenge the vets on the team ahead of him. The focus now is on Tackling and Agility – both need to improve on the way to becoming an elite LB.

But in all seriousness, the expectations for the first season are simply to start putting up some stats and making a few big hits when called upon. It may be similar to Burfict’s debut season in the DSFL, sitting behind Domine and Light in the roster but still managing to make a name for himself. And similarly to that debut season in London, Burfict has a couple of outstanding vets to learn from including the LBotY and DofY for ISFL last season in Galf Wilf. Hopefully he can carry on the momentum as one of the top rated LBs from the S25 class and he and the Outlaws can have a successful season. Burfict has a taste for silverware after all.

Coming off an Ultimini victory with the Tijuana Luchadores, Rich Triplet had accomplished a goal he set for himself since being drafted there. Knowing there was not much time and coming off a heart-breaking defeat after having the best record in the league the year before. Rich felt great about where he was at, in the S25 draft Rich was taken 14th overall going to the defending champions the San Jose Sabercats, who on the same day Rich won his championship, they would go on to go back to back. 

The Sabercats are a very young team on both sides of the ball and with two championships already checked they appear to be going for more. They have only 2 players from before S21 and continue to grow as a unit. With the unfortunate retirement of Nate Swift and soon after Deondre Thomas-Fox, the Sabercats looked to get another weapon for Monty Jack and snagged wide receiver Tugg Speedman in the S26 draft. A great prospect who gave Rich Triplet fits in the ultimini and the two games prior against the London Royals. 

The Sabercats continue to build through the draft and while they don’t have the history of some dynasties such as the Orange County Otters or the Arizona Outlaws, it looks like they are paving their own path through history.

This offseason was the first for Borgo, as he was a part of the DSFL draft. He did play for the Birddogs in their last 2 games last season, but he was just sleeping on the couch of one of his teammates in Dallas, as he wasn't sure where he was going to end up in the draft. After being selected 18 OA by the Birddogs, Borgo found a nice apartment near the training facility and has settled into the team nicely, working to improve his speed and route running, as the Front Office in Dallas has said that he'll be lining up mainly as a receiver this season, as they really liked how he performed as a DFA. While Borgo won’t be officially be switching to a receiver, he’s hoping that the skills he gains running routes for the Birddogs will help develop his understanding of how to be a better Vertical Threat TE in the ISFL.

Borgo has also been developing a friendship and on-field chemistry with rookie quarterback Joliet Christ Jr, who Dallas has put their trust in this season to be the franchise they were looking for to replace the QB the lost to ISFL Callups this season. Borgo led the Birddogs receiver corps in receptions and yards in the preseason, with 25 receptions for 276 yards over the 4 games. While Dallas hasn’t officially set their tactics and lineups for the season to come, Borgo is hoping this is a sign of good things to come this season.

A lot of changes for me from last season to this one. Last season I was an undrafted waiver playing for the Minnesota Grey Ducks. I played for games with them in the regular season and helped secure a playoff berth. Since them the draft has come and gone. I was selected in the second round of the DSFL draft by the Kansas City Coyotes. I have not played an official game for them yet, but I dominated the Prospect Bowl, leading all running backs in touchdowns and yards per carry, while second in yards. My first official preseason is officially come and gone, we didnt play great and my performance left some to be desired but that just goes to show you how much tougher this league is than college. Ive been changing myself a lot over these last months. My speex and exosiveness has increased by miles, and I am feeling stronger. The weeks of training have started to pay off. The Kansas city coaching staff has been incredible in helping tune in to my game and continually improve. In all my time in the DSFL has seen A lot of changes, and a lot more to come with week one looming overhead. I just have to run hard and hope to make a difference.

For the Yellowknife Wraiths, a lot changed. In terms of personnel, several new rookies will be playing this season due to players retiring or leaving the team due to inactivity. One of these rookies is Djibutee McJimmerson who will be taking a place in the defensive backfield, instead of L’Carpetron Dookmarriot, to partner his fellow draftee Foster at CB. Promising receiver Arthur Naught being brought up instead of retired WR Chris Kross and his impact of the team is already being felt with his expertise in helping pick the players fantasy football teams. The street shark himself, Big Slammu, will be playing out of position for the season at DT but should be a force to be reckoned with as offensive linemen are unlikely to want to (or be able to) block a land shark. The only veteran presence added was in the form of Mack Arianlacher replacing Thomaslacher in one of the off-season’s blockbuster trades, but the team is still young with the rookies being brought up.

In terms of my player, Patrik Money is still a bust. While he got his customary week 1 sack, he is now at his maximum potential but still seems erratic, unreliable and downright sloppy. Hopefully getting the final points of endurance will see an uptake in stats, but it seems unlikely.

The Norfolk Seawolves had some big changes this season and are hoping to bounce back from their awful placement last season with some new draft picks. 3 new changes to the defense will give the Seawolves a better edge this season: SparkySparky Boom-man, Bean Beanman, and Benjamin Ankers. Boom-Man is already a top prospect and should make a big difference in the backfield to help the Seawolves overcome their league worst defense last season. Adding a new defensive lineman with Beanman will help out Chad Simpson and Candic Fitinyomouf to hopefully bring more edge rushing and pressure on the offense. On the other side of the ball, the Seawolves were able to add another running back which should give Mr. Forty-Two some relief. In a similar theme, the Seawolves had the league worst offense despite Forty-Two’s attempts. He was the top rusher in the league last season and had 8 touchdowns for a 3.9 rushing average. We should see his numbers get better with more efficiency and having Ace Savage to back him up will give the seasoned running back a chance to take a break instead of having to be relied upon so heavily on offense. I think this new changes will bring some better game play on both sides of the ball for Norfolk.
