Chiasa Year in Review
On the Field Review
Chiasa has had an exciting year joining the DSFL, being on Portland he has a real opportunity to compete for a championship and he isn’t taking any moment for granted. This year he began his journey playing a couple games for Dallas and then was drafted by Portland in the following months. Chiasa in Portland has met plenty of wonderful people he could truly call his friends and is happy to take his next steps into the DSFL. So far into the season Chiasa has recorded 51 tackles, 2 interceptions and 9 passes defended in his rookie year as a CB with 11 games under his belt and more to come. Chiasa and Portland started his year off with a game against London, before this game he had a ton of nerves. Sure, he played in an ISFL game before, but this was a team that invested draft capital in him and had expectations for him to be great. Then when the team was about to take to the field Chiasa was approached by the head coach. Seeing Chiasa’s intense nerves the coach walked up and told Chiasa he was playing with people around his skill level just like at Dallas, he wouldn’t dominate like in prior football leagues but he had the talent to hang with them and after a couple of reps he’d be fine and this was 100% true. He had five tackles and had a solid game all around.
The next week Chiasa recorded his first DSFL interception picking off the Buccaneers QB Daytona in a nail bitter that could’ve went either way. The fourth game of the season the Pythons blew out the Ducks and secured a 4-game winning streak and Chiasa let no one by him as he made 6 tackles that game to protect the endzones. His only other interception so far on the season came in week 8 in a 7 to 6 win over the Royals. Chiasa’s pick came at a crucial time to slow down the Royals as they crossed midfield and were threatening to score. This was a vital interception to push the Pythons win streak to 8.
Most recently the Pythons won in a comeback win against the Grey Ducks to secure the 1 seed for the playoffs. Although he didn’t pick off the QB this game Chiasa broke up two passes and made five tackles. In this complete team effort the team came together to celebrate their last win of the calendar year, the season wasn’t anywhere near over but the team is one of the most complete in the DSFL and is full of talent that will flourish in the ISFL, Chiasa is hoping he can add himself to the ranks of all time ISFL greats.
Additionally, for in team awards Chiasa was awarded defensive game ball of the week by the Pythons for week 2, this is a game ball Chiasa still has in his room all these weeks later!
Off the Field Review
As the next year starts this is where Chiasa needs to start making resolutions. The Pythons are a close team and work well as a unit but off the field most of the team is like a family. Chiasa is more of an introvert however and has a hard time interacting with the rest of the team. Something Kita needs to work on is interacting with the team more to become closer to this family. He is slowly integrating more and more with the team especially the defensive unit, but he still has a long way to go. He has a better relationship with management as he does better with one on one communication, however. He takes all the advice they can give him and runs with it. Anyway he can be an asset he will do what it takes. Lastly Chiasa wants to look into developing more leadership skills to be a better leader on and off the field. Even though he is introverted being a leader is something most great players do instinctually. During the offseason he will seek advice on how he can get his teammates trust and how he can help all players, younger and older into being the best they can be in that situation so their team has an optimal chance at winning the game at hand.
Future in Review
Nobody can tell the future, but this is Chiasa’s goals for his future in the ISFL and DSFL. This season with 3 games remaining Chiasa would love to get one more INT to push his total up to three. As much as he would love a pick 6 those are incredibly rare and he is content waiting until a lot later into his career to get his first TD. He would also like his team to win at least 2 out of the next 3 games, they sit at 10-1 and can win out but anything can happen at the end of a football season as players play for pride and positioning.
Additionally, Chiasa and his team are looking towards the playoffs. They want the championship and they want it bad but they are going to have to battle a talented team to get there so once the regular season is over they can’t look ahead and the coaching staff is discipling them to take every game at a time. But it is foolish to say they don’t have that championship on their minds!
More long term, Chiasa is looking to secure himself as high of a seed as he can possibly get. He fell lower than some expected in the DSFL draft and he wants to make sure it doesn’t happen a second time. He has played this year with something to prove and hopes to standout amongst the highly talented CBs he is facing off against. Once in the ISFL Chiasa’s main goal he will be gunning for is championship trophies and defensive player of the year awards. As of right now he has his eyes set on one a piece but if he can get one he’ll try for a second, then a third, and so on. He is hopeful to meeting players amongst they way that he can call his friends and even family but more importantly he is excited to get to play professional football and will not squander any opportunity he gets to play.
