(S29) PT 4 - Statues

The Austin Copperheads organization has designated a new space for a new statue to be erected during the week 16 matchup against the Honolulu Hahalua. With a poor record this season despite some great play across just about all positions other than our secondary, the top brass of the team have decided to get fans in the seats in a meaningless game between two teams with some of the worst records in the league, that we would be erecting a statue and celebrating a player's great career, but have not revealed who yet. Thoughts race through the mind of all the great copperheads that have come before us. Easton Cole and Dick Wizardry for example as some of the all time greats. Players like these already have their statues outside the stadium, immortalized forever for generations of Copperhead fans to see on their way to see a football game in Austin, Texas. Surely this statue is for a Copperhead of a younger era. A Copperhead who has put together a great career, yet has not received the immortal glory like the greats that came before them. Surely this statue is for one who is the greatest of all time at their position (as far a in a copperheads uniform), someone like Videl-San who holds the Copperhead record for most receiving yards Despite still having a few more years left before he will ride off into the sunset to join the other Copperhead greats who came before him.

I think that my DSFL team Portland Pythons should select me Tay Swizzle to have a statue of outside their stadium. Although I have been there a pretty short time I have brought in a multitude of new fans to the Portland fanbase and the ISFL in general. Her hit song "Teardrops On My Football" brought a ratings increase and attendance boost to the stadium itself. Plus if Fulham can have Michael Jackson for no reason other than the owner likes the musician, why can't Tay Swizzle have her own statue outside the stadium she herself plays in. Not just plays in football wise, but also concert wise too! Not to mention her declaration to spend the most amount of time possible in minors with the team that drafted her in this previous draft. So this absolutely will age well. Unless it turns out that Tay Swizzle will be the worst wide reciever of all time in DSFL history. That will be extremely doubtful though as she has worked hard in training, earning her tpe every single week making sure she will be one of the best players in DSFL. Potentially even ISFL if she gets drafted by somebody or someplace she likes enough. Anyway that's my reasoning for having Tay Swizzle be immortalized for Portland Pythons

The Yeti have a long history in the league as one of the original teams. A bevy of professional dot football players have come and gone and so the choices for this statue are innumerable. Instead of erecting just one marble monument, I think one for the offense and one for the defense would best honor all facets of the team. Being a relatively new member to the Yeti, I am choosing to go with two current players. Despite still playing, they are both legends in their own right.

William Lim has been a Yeti for his entire ISFL career. He has been the leading receiver not only on the team but also for the league multiple seasons. Without Lim, the Yeti passing attack would be nothing like it is currently. In fact, in recent seasons, the Yeti have gained a reputation around the league as one of the most prolific passing offenses, thanks largely in part to Lim.

On the defensive side of the ball, I feel there is no candidate more deserving currently than Immanuel Blackstone. Another lifelong Yeti, Blackstone has been an anchor on the defensive line. I was fortunate enough to play alongside him for a season or two before position swapping. He provides constant and consistent pressure on the offensive line and is a terror to quarterbacks across the league.

The new statue garden outside the Chicago stadium should absolutely feature one individual in particular. Arguably the greatest of all time at their position, Sam Sidekick is a Chicago icon and in that same tier of player as the fictional characters Justin Tucker or Adam Vinatieri. Despite sim luck regularly not being on their side, Sam has been a staple of Chicago football since season 22 and has always played their part. Every kicker actively swings games with their performances, but for a good part of this last decade Sidekick has been automatic in every sense of the word.

Beyond ensuring Sam Sidekick's spot in the garden, It would be great to see every player in Chicago history immortalized outside the stadium in some way, either with updated plaques each season, or small busts with biographies upon their retirement or departure from the team. I think this would be a great way to tell a lot of unknown stories ranging from unsung youth on the defense like Evan Jones, to the franchise greats like the previously mentioned Sidekick and this decade's quarterback, George O'Donnell, all the way back to the first ever Chicago Butchers draft pick, Lightsout Lewis the linebacker from the Portland Pythons.

This is a weird one for me, because anyone who's been in the league for longer than I have knows there's only one candidate to be remembered for Orange County. That's Marc Spector.

Personally, I didn't know him. Eleven days after I joined the site, Speculadora posted this media post. One of the first ISFL streams I watched - it might have been the week 1 stream, or perhaps one of the draft streams - was dedicated to him. The Children's Organ Transplant Association, the organisation the most recent charity drive was in support of, helped Spector to receive the lung transplant that extended his life.

Spector was Orange County's co-GM from Season 10 to Season 12, the Otters winning the Ultimus in S12. His first player is in the Hall of Fame, spending all of his nine seasons with Orange County and winning the Ultimus three times. He's responsible for bringing the best GM of all-time to the team, who said "He’s honestly the reason that I thought the Otters' open co-GM position was worth leaving NOLA for when I saw it." in the linked post. His achievements alone are worthy of being remembered, but the fact that he did it while literally fighting for his life is extraordinary. Sometimes when searching for something in the OCO discord, I'll stumble across a message from him; or when scrolling through the list of users in the server I'll pass his name. Unless discord purges inactive accounts, he'll always be there and that feels fitting.

Even those who didn't know him, like me, won't forget him.

Baltimore has had quite a few good players since it's introduction to the league. We have had a few ups and downs and while most would probably pick maybe a head coach that brought us our first Ultimus or maybe the star quarterback alongside. I would go for a different take and go with a defensive legend - Kurt Hendrix. Kurt Hendrix is a linebacker much like myself, he was a menace and straight up terror on the defensive side of the ball. Hendrix played for the Hawks for 10 years and in 2024 he had the most sacks in a season for the franchise at 17. He also is a franchise leader in tackles and tackles for a loss and has been for some time, I think his records will take a lot to break. I think he is a good option for a statue to honor the defensive side of football which often gets overlooked for the flashy touchdowns from wide receivers and quarterbacks alike. With 99 sacks in a career, it is a great honor to follow in his footsteps and hopefully a nice statue of him celebrating a sack would suit well outside the stadium and set the tone of what our defense tries to accomplish now.

The Chicago Butchers may not have as colorful of a team history as many other teams, but that doesn't make it any harder to choose between all of the deserving candidates on who to make a statue of. We could choose one of the founding members of the Butchers. We could choose one of our best players in franchise history, such as Sean O'Leary @Blueline or Mike Hockhertz @CDub2. Maybe we could go with someone that is universally loved in our locker room such as our beloved retiring captain Tree Gelbman @RenoJacksonHS. These would all be fantastic choices, and they would all be completely worthy of having a statue outside of our stadium. But no, I'm not going to choose any of them. I would choose to make a statue of Franky, the good old tank commander at QB. Sure, he never threw a touchdown in any of his games as an ISFL QB. Sure, he was most likely the worst QB in the history of the ISFL, statistically speaking. Sure, maybe this is actually mostly a meme choice. But despite all of those shortcomings, in the eyes of many Butchers and Butchers fans, Frank the Tank is a sign of hope, and a sign of good times ahead. So Franky gets my statue this time around.

As one of the oldest members on the Philadelphia Liberty roster, I've been lucky enough to play with some legends out on the field, and even better locker room figures. When it comes to picking the best of the best, I immediately think of a few different users and players, and honestly I'd rather give them all shout outs than just writing about one, so that's what I'm gonna do. First off is Numbers, @124715, and his player Richard D'Attoria V. When I first joined the team, numbers was actually inactive, but his Safety DAV had a grand presence out on the field, and he was a player that I really looked up to. I've done deep dives into the records before so I won't rehash them all again here, but he was a legend out on the field and truly deserved his Philly HOF nod. When he came back to being active later in his career, it was always so much fun talking with him and getting to know him. He's younger than most in this league but he's incredibly mature for his age, and being able to talk about school with him and the likes was always nice, especially since I'm still pursuing my education as well too. I honestly really miss chatting with you Numbers, and if you're ever looking to talk or need some advice on school/work/anything, you know where to find me . This is already over 200 words, but I still have 3 people I wanted to recognize whoops lol. Well here goes, @iamslm22, I can't thank you enough for everything you've done for Philly throughout your career here with Avon Blocksdale Jr. When Philly was in a desperate situation, you stepped up once again to take the reigns and find the team 2 fantastic GM's who you knew would bring this team back up and out of the grave. You'll always be a legend in my eyes. Due to a lack of time, unfortunately I’m gonna have to leave the next 2 users I’d like to recognize as a surprise, perhaps I’ll even write a media about them ?

This might be a hot take but reserve statues for those who have truly earned them…

So as a new player it would be hard for me to single out any player as being statue worthy. I think if I am honest, I think the idea of immortalizing a player in bronze is the worst idea I’ve ever heard.  I’ve been in sims for over 3 years and I’m going to be a bit brutal here, players come and go. There are many heros that grace every team, and it’s not that they don’t deserve to be remembered. It just comes down to the fact that especially on teams in the minor leagues that any player’s contributions tend to be a blip on the long-term timeline of a team. So, you might ask, “What is the answer then?  Do you even think statues should be used to commemorate anything?”.  In my mind huge commemorations like statues should be reserved for members who have served long term GM positions and have actively contributed to the league. Having great sim luck is not something that I feel needs extra commemoration in sims, most leagues have a HOF for that. Your stats and records already will live on forever, so that leads me to wish that if we were going to build monuments to people, it would be of the people who have made our experiences her better and not just the statistical anomalies who were blessed with sim luck, but hey this is just one woman’s opinions.
