Norfolk Seawolves
Conail arguably had the best performance out of any running back all preseason. Now you may not think so at the first glance due to the low YPC of 3.4 and 2 fumbles but, all together O’Sullivan was very consistent with 4 rushing touchdowns and, two games over 100 rushing yards for a total of 398 yards through out 4 games. That’s nothing to scoff at by any means, but where this kid really shines is catching the ball. A total of 12 receptions for 135 yards, that’s 11.5 yards per reception throughout 4 games. Quite an accomplishment for sure, and on top of that he lead his team with 8 receptions and 63 yards in the opening game. All together this totaled up to 533 all purpose yards for the preseason.
Expectations
If Norfolk can work with Conail and, develop the running game with him this kid can be an insane dual threat out of the backfield in the DSFL and NSFL for seasons to come. I have no doubt he will continue to improve quickly.

Tijuana Luchadores
Spinelli hands down had the best running game of the preseason carrying a very impressive 4.5 YPC, 4 rushing touchdowns and on top of that he hit over the 100 yard mark in all four preseason games totaling 485 yards. Last but not least the kid managed to break a DSFL record (correct me if I’m wrong) by rushing the ball 83 yards for a touchdown. Though I do not believe it will stand because this is only the preseason. He put the ball on the ground 1 time, though this turnover was near their own end zone and very much attributed to their loss. Now when it comes to receiving we have to flip the script entirely as Spinelli was easily one of the worst receiving back out there for the preseason. 6 receptions for 33 yards, that’s only 5.5 yards per catch, and the amount of drops were astonishing. This kid is going to have to work on this quickly or, just stop running routes.
Expectations
He can become one of the best running backs in the DSFL and even NSFL when it comes to ground work, but if he’s going to want to be considered elite he’s going to have to become more reliable when catching.

San Antonio Marshals
Now, a brief look at Stats uhh...Stats, may lead you to believe he out performed O’Sullivan on the ground. With 394 yards, 3.3 YPC, 3 Touchdowns and, 3 games over 100 yards. The fact of the matter is a lot of these were due to him receiving over 30 carries in three games. This is by no means a real knock as he proved he could keep up with the workload and, he only fumbled the ball a single time with all of those carries. Though it’s tough to say if he can consistently keep this going. Stats has been pretty stagnant for a few seasons now and, doesn’t seem to be improving, and with the DSFL getting better every week right now he can get overshadowed quickly. Receiving wise he didn’t show up much but, when he did he made some moves with 3 receptions, for 31 yards, and 10.3 yards per reception. Though when the ball was thrown to him he was reasonably reliable.
Expectations
Unless this guy is able to really turn it up and begin to develop I don’t see him ever being much more than a back up in the NSFL.

Portland Pythons
Goose had quite an average preseason as far as running backs go, he brought in 327 yards, averaging 3.6 ypc and 2 touchdowns. Though he did put the ball on the ground a total of two times and both of those were in the same game. All in all it wasn’t a bad performance in terms of running. Now receiving was a little less average for these four games, as he only brought the ball down 4 times for a total of 12 yards all four games averaging 3 yards per reception. Bad enough for the worst receiving back for the DSFL preseason. Again dropped passes seem to plague the kid.
Expectations
Much like Spinelli Goose seems to struggle with receiving. Unlike Spinelli Goose is does not have the inate ability to run the ball. Unless he’s able to start improving in all aspects he will never be much more than where he’s at now.

Chicago needs to put the ball into this kids hands a bit more than they have been, because boy oh boy did he perform. Averaging 4.0 YPC for 256 yards and 2 touchdowns on top of that he didn’t put the ball on the ground a single time. Sure he carried the ball a bit more than half the amount of times as some of the more utilized running backs but, you can’t look past all of that. As far as receiving he was no slouch at all with 7 receptions for 59 yards, averaging 8.7 yards per reception. All in all the kid performed real well when he was given the opprotunity.
Expecations
Payton plans to spend his entire career in the DSFL as a supplement player for some odd reason, so this is the best it’s gonna get but he seems like a happy bot, I mean boy.

Kansas City Coyotes
Tobin didn’t get too much of a chance to run the ball, not once did he get more than 15 carries in a game. This could be due to them slightly splitting the backfield. Still he managed to put in some work with 165 yards, 3.5 YPC, and no fumbles, but that’s where his production ends in terms of running the ball, now receiving is a bit of a different story but, even still Tobin was underwhelming. He managed to bring the ball in 15 times, but only for 71 yards averaging 4.7 yards per reception. Not to many bright spots to talk about with this preseason performance.
Expectations
Another guy who doesn’t seem to be improving but on top of that he doesn’t have much of a skillset at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up backing up someone in the DSFL before wasting away on the FA.
[b]All in all it seems like there are two real stand outs down here in the DSFL when it comes to running backs, and both of them will be available come the season 5 draft. Those two of course being O'Sullivan and Spinelli and, it is certainly going to be interesting to see where they end up going in the draft and who will go first? I think if O'Sullivan can really get the run game going and, consistently improve his receiving game he will be the easy choice but, if Spinelli is able to light up the regular season like he did the preseason that may turn a few heads or change some minds. For now only time will tell.
