Loyalty has always been valued by Nicholas Pierno; however, early in his career, Pierno was loyal to a fault. His rookie deal wasn’t earth-shattering, but the $2,500,000 first-year salary was by far the most money he had even had in his life. Already having to pay out leases at apartments in Yellowknife and Kansas City that he’d never stay in for longer than a week after being traded to Colorado, Pierno was in a slight financial hole, but nothing too serious. Soon after, though, people from Pierno’s past began popping up asking for favors—reminding him of small, menial things they had done for him in the past. They started showing up at his house in Denver—it got to the point that Pierno’s front door was revolving constantly and he didn’t know the majority of the people that were spending time on his property. He quickly became financially burdened. After meeting with his agent to discuss, Pierno wiped the slate clean, tightened his circles and lit the ways with some bridges he had to burn, but he now knows everyone that’s around him loves him for him.
