100% agreed, Gaston is not a villain.

What the hell? Doesn't she know anything about how society works? She does not get to say that to you, the best provider in the entire town.

Okay, so her nutcase dad comes over while you're drinking away your sorrows because his daughter rejected you. He's lost his mind. What's this about about a beast kidnapping Belle? Had him too? What a lunatic. He's always been crazy, but this is just over the top psychopath level shit now.

So, seeing as you're a douchebag, you decide to get her dad shipped away to a mental hospital. But hey, if she marries you you can fix it. Not really a nice thing to use leverage on, but it wasn't like Maurice wasn't a crazy fucker to begin with. I know it, you know it, we all know it. This would be for the best. Maybe they can treat him.

So Belle runs up while they're taking her dad acting like you just sentenced him to fucking death. "NO! I REALLY WAS KIDNAPPED BY A BEAST! HERE! LOOK AT HIM!"

So yeah, maybe Gaston is a jackass. That doesn't make him a villain though. Plenty of people are jackasses. He was perfectly justified in just about everything he did. Belle's dad is crazy. Having an unknown monster creeping around kidnapping people in the woods is a bad thing.

He doesn't say anything wrong in his entire song to the villagers about why they should kill the Beast based on what Maurice told them.

Never read this before - but it basically encompasses my thoughts. Dude sees a literal monster kidnap a girl and her father. WTF is he supposed to do.
