Favorite work of classic literature (say, pre-1900)? The Count of Monte Cristo. The perfect story: man experiences injustice and uses his wits and dumb luck to carefully and methodically exact revenge on every person who has wronged him in the most petty manner possible. Reread so many times and it stays incredible.
