It’s been a tough year. I was ranked the number one safety in all of Canadian University football, and very big things were expected of me. I think I might have let it get to my head, because I made key mistakes in losses to McGill, University of Toronto and finally against our local rivals, Carleton University.
I’m not proud of what followed. During our post-game film session, my ego couldn’t handle the amount of deserved criticism I was getting for my blunders against Carleton. An arm-tackle, a deflected pass that should’ve been a game changing interception, a misdiagnosed play, all these made my face burn with embarrassment.
Finally, I snapped. I started giving coach a piece of my mind, like he was trying to make me look bad, when I was the only one who did that. He let me know exactly what he thought of my attitude. The temperature just kept rising and if my teammates hadn’t intervened, I know I would’ve struck him.
I received a call from the athletic director before our next practice. He explained that he had discussed the situation with my coaches, and he had decided that I needed to be removed from the team. That’s why I’m here.
