I really wish Angus Winchester could win defensive player of the year once. After a really strong start to his career as an offensive linemen he never really lived up to that level ever again. It wasn't for lack of trying, or a bad fit in a certain scheme. Angus Winchester is a really hard working, talented player in the perfect defense for him and he elevates his team to elite levels. But it is just never quite enough.
Last season he was edged out by coverage specialist Harrif Ernston. This season it's looking like Antoine Delacour is going to be the league's #1 defender. Although he led the league in sacks last season and tied San Jose DT Dan Miller for the sack lead this season it still doesn't look like it will be enough. There may come a day before Angus hangs up the cleats for good where he can claim he was the greatest defender for 14 short weeks, but this doesn't look like the season. Maybe next year.
