The player who will always be in the biggest bust conversation is the former Orange County Otter, JJ Reigns, selected with the first overall pick of the Season One NSFL Draft. This was way before I ever joined the NSFL, but from what I heard there were great expectations on Reigns based on his statements heading into the draft and projected activity. During his first season, he posted a respectable stat line of 46 tackles and 14 sacks, which is great production from an interior lineman. Reigns second season was similar at 41 tackles and 9 sacks, but his activity began to drop off. The Otters chose to switch him to wide receiver when he became for the most part, fully inactive. Reign sat out the entirety of Season Three on the bench. He returned to the field next season, posting 81 receptions for 832 yards and 5 touchdowns. This was to be his final season in the NSFL. Reigns was supposed to be the player for the Otters to build upon and support an exceptional young defense. He never gave the effort deserved to a player selected first over ten's of other players who ended up succeeding. The Otters weren't badly affected by selecting him as Reigns did provide some decent production when he played, but he was never the impact player they believed he would become.
