Going all in on a rebuild is never an easy thing. It's especially difficult when you're the reigning champs. Allow me to quickly sum up what the Liberty has lost and received from a purely draft stock point of view
From a trade with New Orleans, they gain a third round pick the S9 Draft, a second round pick in the S10 draft, and secure the better first round pick between Colorado and New Orleans. They lose a fourth round pick in the S9 draft.
In a trade with Baltimore they gain a S9 fourth round pick and a S10 third round pick.
From two trades with Colorado they gain a S9 third round pick, S10 first and second picks, and swap S9 first round picks.
From a trade with Yellowknife, they received a S10 second round pick.
To break all that down again, they will have seven new picks in the next two years. Two additional third round picks in S9, a first round pick in S10, three S10 second round picks, and one S10 third round pick. They were an aging them and got as much bang for their buck as they could before regression hit. With such an influx of youth you have to imagine this team being a force to be reckoned with when the draft picks develop in to the players they could be, however, I am still wondering if it was the right call. Coming off a championship year, poised to be a contender once again, turned in to a tear it all down and try again in a few years very quickly. Perhaps it was a a wisely thought out and prepared move, perhaps it was a knee jerk decision. In the end, we won't truly know how good the decision was for several more seasons worth of revisionist history, after the draft picks are made, after the rookies develop, and What Philadelphia will to prevent this problem when the influx of youth becomes another aging roster in several more seasons.
