New Talent:
The Wraiths have made a few big trades in the last couple seasons in order to push for a championship, but the move to bring in Micah Hendrix may be the move that finally puts them over the edge. The Wraiths knew that they had a chance to contend for a championship this season, so they decided to stay aggressive and send a future second round pick to Philadelphia in exchange for Micah Hendrix. On his own, Hendrix is one of the best linebackers in the league. But when you add him to a Wraiths defense that was already one of the best in the league, you get an absolutely lethal unit. Lining up Micah Hendrix and Boss Tweed together gives the Wraiths the best linebacker duo in the league. Being able to have two elite linebackers on the field at the same time who can stop the run, rush the passer, and defend passes makes it nearly impossible to attack this Wraiths defense as there is no real weakness in it. It is often said that defense wins championships and adding Micah Hendrix to the Wraiths gives them the type of defense that can carry them to a championship before even considering their offense. After this season, the trade for Hendrix may be looked back at as the move that won the Wraiths their first championship.

In the NSFC Championship game, the Yellowknife Wraiths will host the Baltimore Hawks. The Hawks squeaked into the playoffs with a 7-7 record but have the talent of a contender and have often looked better than their record. The Wraiths have looked strong all season with a league best 11-3 record and the best point differential in the league. The Wraiths swept the season series against the Hawks and will have home field advantage for this game. The Hawks will be able to put up a good fight, but I don't think they will be able to take down this Wraiths team on the road and the Wraiths will return to the Ultimus game.

In the ASFC Championship game, two very different teams are meeting as the Otters make their eight consecutive playoff appearance while the Second Line are appearing in the playoffs for the first time. The Second Line got off to a rough start this season but made some trades midseason and hit a hot streak that has given them the best record in the league over the last eight games. However, the Otters have been a strong team all season long and boast the second best point differential. These two teams have split their season series with the Second Line dominating the Otters in New Orleans and the Otters winning narrowly in Orange County. I think this will be a closely fought game but I think that home field advantage will be the deciding factor as the Otters win and book their fifth consecutive trip to the Ultimus game.

The Yellowknife Wraiths will host the championship game for the first time in franchise history as they take on a familiar foe in the Orange County Otters. Both teams have looked like true contenders all season long. The Wraiths have home field advantage on their side but the Otters swept the Wraiths this season, winning both match ups by double digits. It's a tough match up to call but I think the Wraiths will figure out the Otters this time as I'm going to bet on the team that looked stronger overall in the regular season and also has home field advantage. The Wraiths come away with their first ever Ultimus win.

That Magic Moment:
One of the most magic moments of the playoffs came in the closing seconds of the New Orleans Second Line's victory over the Orange County Otters. The Second Line were on the brink of pulling off an upset to secure their first ever playoff victory. They had held onto a 17-10 lead for all of the fourth quarter, but then the Otters drove down and tied the game up with 2:37 remaining. Suddenly it looked like the Second Line's chances were slipping away as it looked like they would have to go to overtime. However, the Second Line weren't ready to give up and were determined not to head to overtime. They didn't have much time but were able to get a drive going. They made it to the 29 yard line but didn't have enough time to drive further. They had to put their hopes and dreams in the hands of Peg Leg, one of the lowest TPE players on their roster. With 10 seconds left, he attempted a 46 yard field goal to send the Second Line to their first ever championship appearance. He came through and nailed the field goal right down the middle to put the Second Line back on top without enough time for the Otters to answer back. Peg Leg delivered on the most important kick of his career, giving the Second Line a big magic moment to remember in their first ever playoff win.
Root for the Underdog:
I believe that the New Orleans Second line has a chance to upset the Orange County Otters in the ASFC Championship Game. On the surface, the odds are stacked against the Second Line. They are making their first ever playoff appearance and have to go against a team that has made the playoffs eight seasons in a row and has reached the Ultimus game four years in a row. The Otters finished with a better record and a better point differential than the Second Line and will have home field advantage. However, the Second Line have changed more than any other team over the course of the season. They started off 2-4 but have been the hottest team in the league since then. They have now won 7 of their last 8 games and have scored at least 30 points in 6 of their last 8 games. Their sole loss in that span was by just 1 point against the Otters in Orange County, showing that they can play the Otters close on the road and could be a capable of pulling off an upset there in the playoffs. While the Otters are still the favorites and most analysts will pick them to win, people should not sleep on this Second Line team which is a legitimate threat to win the Ultimus if their recent hot play continues.
