To be honest, this is the first season where every team that deserved to be in the playoffs actually made it. The SaberCats, the Outlaws, and the Yeti are all rebuilding or pretty darn bad roster builds. The Liberty decided to undergo a mid season rebuild so that pretty much eliminated them from the playoffs. So that leaves 4 teams. And those are the playoff match ups. It's weird not writing about the Liberty getting screwed by the Hawks, or how difficult the AFSC division is having the Cats, Outlaws and the Otters always slugging it out. Previous to S8, there were 3 really good teams in each division and someone's dreams were crushed every Week 14. This year, everyone knew the playoffs pretty much by week 10 or 12. I will write about the Yeti a little bit though. The amount of work they put in the last season to fortify their rebuild is incredible. It's been roughly 4 or 5 seasons of hard rebuilding, so for them to just fall short of a playoff spot this year was tough, but let's get real here, they will be NSFC champs withing a season or two. 197
New Talent: Write about which S8 trade will or did have the biggest impact in the playoffs. Can be written at any time depending on if you choose to write about who already has or who will do good
There were tons of huge trades at the deadline this year. With the PHI and SJS rebuilds in full swing, lots of vets were moving around. 2 key trades that happened was Benson Bayley moving to the Second Line and Micah Hendrix being sent to the Yellowknife Wraiths. Both moves fortified the defenses in maybe no positions of need, but the secondary and linebackers are so vital to a strong defence that a surplus of talent is never a bad thing. Bayley coming in and replacing Brister was a huge upgrade, and just what the young Second Line D needed. Hendrix is another vet that came in and lined up beside another legend Boss Tweed to make up probably the best linebacker corp in the league. And guess what, these moves paid off. Both teams were in the finals. The Wriaths won, but I don't think NOLA makes the finals without Bayley. 153
Unsung Hero:Who was the unsung hero of the playoffs, convince us. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game)
Unsung hero of the playoffs? Well that's tough because so many people on the Wraiths contributed to a huge playoff victory. You could say Akselsen, but he's the QB, no way he's unsung. The run game was huge, Bobby Rainey is a beast, but he's been a beast all year so there's no way he's the "unsung" hero. Eric Kennedy and Bailey Cook are monsters, McPoyal is a catch machine, but are they unsung? I don't think so. I'll go with a weird choice here. I'm gonna say Dermot. It's weird to consider him unsung, but he doesn't get enough credit for how much of an impact player he is. He regularly holds the #1 WR in check and even manages to get a handful of INTs each year. So for him to get a beautiful pick early in the Ultimus game is a great way to cap his playoff resume so far. 156
Going to Disneyland!:Who was the Ultimus MVP? Give us a rundown of their celebratory trip to Disneyland. (Can be completed after the Ultimus game)
Ultimus MVP: One of the Penningtons. Do you really care which one it is? No. Do I know which one it is? No. Will all three of them end up going to Disneyland together and sleeping in the same King sized bed for 4 nights? Yes. That's the way the Penningtons work. So really, it's hilarious that Pennington won the Ultimus MVP. The linebacker had a great game, but now he's gotta have 2 others tag along and spoil his victory lap in Disneyland. Though to be fair, those 3 young guns might like all the rides and the stuffed animals. And I can imagine Thad standing in front of Splash mountain and getting soaked time and time again until Chad and Brad have to drag him away. Pretty much, who knows what the Penningtons get up to, but they are hilarious and we should give them the MVP just to see what shenanigans they can get up to in Disneyland. 162
