There have been a lot of memorable moments in the NSFL for Avon Blocksdale but the one that sticks out the most for sure is the S2 draft, which is the first time he was able to play for a professional team. Heading in to the draft there were 8 teams and he had heard from most of them. He hadn't heard anything from the Las Vegas Legion, but they were managed so poorly that they had no draft picks anyways. He hadn't heard from the San Jose Sabercats at all, but I guess they were un interested. He also hadn't heard from the Colorado Yeti. Coincidentally (or maybe not) those 3 times over the course of Avon's career were the least successful teams for a very long time, until new management took over in Las Vegas and moved them to New Orleans. But heading into the draft he had a decent conversation with several teams, and was curious where he was going to go. Then in the fourth round he received a phone call for the Arizona Outlaw management that they were trying to trade up to draft him. The Outlaws were going to pick him in the fourth round. But in the middle of the fourth round, Gordon Gecko surprised him and took Avon in the fourth round, in a string of offensive linemen selections. What a memory.
