Common False Beliefs
- This doesn’t matter because all of the retiring players are inactives and therefore don’t add very much to the league. FALSE
I would say that based on the TPE levels of the NSFL, 400 TPE is enough to be a difference makers at a couple of different positions, so if we look at the number of players retiring that made it past the 400 TPE mark we end up with 18 of the 24 retiring players this offseason being at least good utility players in the NSFL. Beyond that, 9 of those players are still above 500 TPE. We’re losing players that maybe aren’t all stars, but are quality players with a couple more seasons left in them. These are actives that may recreate, but some will not and we still have to fill their spots in the lineup until they’re back in the NSFL.
- I’m not convinced this is really a problem, we’ll find a way to get by and we do actually have enough rookies right now. OKAY MAYBE BUT...
One of our goals should be to expand. We got actually got a really nice boost from PT affiliation, but those players are committed to other leagues so they won’t be takings on big roles here like GM, HO, media grader, or updater. We’ve got few people doing a ton of work around here and we need new blood to step in and take on roles on the site since it seems a lot of people just aren’t interested in doing that. There’s no reason to not help with this, getting new members will benefit all of us.
- This doesn’t matter because we’re growing at a high enough rate to replace all of the retiring players. FALSE
If a player hasn’t made it past the 150 TPE mark after their first season it’s likely that they’ll go inactive. If they haven’t hit the 250 TPE mark after their second season they’ve likely already gone inactive and will never make the NSFL. Looking at the DSFL teams right now we are likely looking at the following numbers of players hitting the 400 TPE mark at some point in their careers and becoming at least utility players. If none of these players go inactive we’ll see 34 new players join the NSFL some time in the next 2 season when we’re on track to lose at least 50 players win the next 2 offseasons. On top of that, we’re only gaining 34 players because of the boost from PT affiliation, meaning we’re going to see a big drop in season 12. Right now there are only 7 season 12 players. We can’t rely on a single draft class every 10 seasons to keep this site running, that’s just unsustainable.
