The Yellowknife mascot is the ghost of Yellowknife. The ghost comes from a local fable older than the Egyptians. The ghost of Yellowknife is said to rise from Yellowknife Bay before every home game. When all the fans are in the stadium cheering for the Wraiths, the ghost goes from plot to plot in the cemetery tending to the dead.

So the team decided to honor this tradition by building a wispy, ghost-like wraith costume and hiring the oldest person in the village to shuffle around the stadium during game days. Once the elder dies, the costume passes on to the next oldest in the city. This way the mascot can be as close to the death he embodies. Below is a very frightening picture of the beast, and one of our elders in costume. Bet you can't figure out which is which!
