Off the top of my head, I don’t have too many rivals. As a running back, I usually have to go against the entire defense on a play so I don’t have many 1 on 1 matchups that would lead to rivalries. However, there is one player who annoys me a lot. His name is Lindarius Shelton, linebacker for the Yellowknife Wraiths. In our Week 2 matchup against the Wraiths, Shelton forced and recovered my only career fumble. A few plays later, the Wraiths scored their only touchdown of the game. Luckily, we were able to edge past them with a late touchdown. However, my fumble nearly cost my team the game. I redeemed myself somewhat with runs to set up our field goal and touchdown later in the game, but I still dwell on the play that nearly cost my team the game. Not only do I view Shelton as a bit of a rival because of that play, but he also plays on a conference rival so there is a big team rivalry fueling the individual rivalry. So far we are 2-0 against the Wraiths, but they have been very close games and I expect the same later in the season when we face them again. We have at least 2 more games against them this season and could see them again in the playoffs. While I will be focused mainly on trying to win for my team, I wouldn’t mind plowing over Shelton or laying him out with a nasty juke if a chance for revenge presents itself.
