Being a professional football player comes with some great perks. We’re paid like we’re important, as if our job means more than the people with the truly important jobs, i.e. teachers, first responders, caretakers, etc. Therefore, with the stupid amount of money I’m being paid to play football, I’m pumping some of that back into the community. I want to fund a non-profit for New Orleans’ youth. Give them some facilities to hang out at after school so they don’t need to turn to crime to entertain themselves. LeBron James gives inspiration with his school, it really shows what one can do with money, youth, and great ambition. Bona’beri Jones was fortunate enough to have older brothers to look up to and keep me straight during adolescence. But that isn’t the case for everyone. Thus, creating a system of people to be role models for the youth is essential. Doing this in New Orleans is the first step towards making a bigger difference. A lot of folks may talk about purchasing cars and houses, but that’s just one way someone can spend their money. I’d rather have a bigger impact and use the money to help more people. Starting small with a local non-profit is the way to go.
