Well, the Ultimus happened and that's about everything positive that you can say about it from a Sabercats' perspective. We got absolutely smoked by Childish and Friends, 49-0. That's hard to stomach. Childish saved one of his best performances for his swansong, 28/50 for 421 yards and six total touchdowns. Joliet couldn't get anything going in the passing game, completing well under 40% of his passes for under 140 passing yards, and only 30 more on the ground on seven carries. About the only Sabercat who had a day to write home about was Kolby Deringer, who had three sacks and a couple of deflections. D'Pez Poopsie and Spencer Castle did OK as well, but that's about it. On the other side, Errol Maddox and Vinny Valentine went for over 100 receiving yards. Five different Hawks caught a touchdown pass. Declan Harp both led the team in receptions and blocked a punt. Steven Oats had 3 TFLs, a sack, and a safety. Marquise Brown quietly grinded out another 100 yard game. It was just an absolute drumming from all sides, and the Sabercats are quite ready to move into the offseason.

7) Next year
OK, so S15 didn't end exactly the way the Sabercats were hoping, but the offseasons are never that long in the NSFL, and S16 is just a few weeks away, and I think we've got some good things to look forward to. For starters, Childish Gambino is retiring, meaning Baltimore is gonna go through some drop off. But besides him, almost every major piece of their offense is hitting regression. Marquise Brown, Vinny Valentine, Viggo Squanch, Verso L'Alto, and Declan Harp are all about to hit their twilight. As for us? The Pennington twins, Kolby Deringer, and Xavier Flash. That's it. Now, we are gonna lose Kazimir Oles to free agency, but we drafted Ahri Espeeyeeseetee for just that reason, and Xavier Flash is finally ready to step into a #1 receiver role. We have 18 players who are still at least a year away from the clutches of regression including Joliet L. Christ, D'Pez Poopsie (the league's highest rated DE), Xandra Troyski (will be the highest rated CB after Ryan Applehort regresses), Freezer Riposte (the league's highest rated DT), two of our three starting safeties (all of who are over 590 TPE at the moment), and of course our two starting tight ends, Cameron Olsen and Dan Wright (#LargeLads). If anything, I'm slighting worried that we're gonna get poached in the expansion draft, because we won't have enough protections to save all of our stars. But we'll see how that goes.

Right now the Sabercats have a brutally complete roster. We're going to have to wait until after the expansion draft to know exactly what holes we have to fill, but let's look at where we stand right now. Our obvious most glaring need is at running back. Chris Orosz is fine for now, but he's been IA for months and the recent dearth of RBs in last year's draft is only going to make Orosz look worse with each passing year. I would love it if we somehow landed Sam Torenson in the draft, but he might be gone by the time we pick. There just aren't that many exciting RBs in free agency this year, so if we don't get Torenson or maybe Mako Mendonca in the second, we might just have to wait a year to really address the position. We could also use another guy in the front seven, because we basically have an elite DE, two elite LBs, a good DE, and a good DT, and that's it. That's only five out of the front seven we have set in stone, so perhaps we could target DE Chad Maulalo or LB Blake Faux to fill out those last couple of spots. The team that we're going to field in S16 is going to be one of the top teams in the league, provided we don't lose too many parts, and adequately replace the ones we do.

10) Rivalries
Before the Sabercats got decleated in the Ultimus, they made it to the conference championship round where they faced an old foe. The Orange County Otters. The Sabercats and the Otters have faced off in the ASFC Championship Game in each of the last four years, and this year, the Sabercats won, bringing this series to two wins a piece. If you're expecting this series to go to five games next season, you aren't alone, because I think they have a good enough roster to be the second best team in the conference next year. But I don't think they have enough to beat us in that series to make it to the Ultimus next year. Their QB just hit regression and is about to take a big hit to his TPE. The running back they drafted last year, Apollo Reed, has only been improving marginally over the course of the season, and doesn't seem like anything more than a change of pace back. Their receiving corps for next year is good (Sunnycursed, Anoa'i, and Blaze at TE), but ours is better (Flash, Espeeyeeseetee, and the Large Lads at TE). And we have more high end talent on the defensive side of the ball then they do (San Jose has seven defenders over 600 TPE, Orange County has six). So I think we can both make it one more time, before Arizona or New Orleans (or maybe even Austin) start catching up and making the ASFC Championship hunt exciting again.
