Christmas is a new thing for me. Back in my country we do not celebrate Christmas or Thanksgiving for that matter. However we do a very interesting thing for New Years. We basically combine all the things that Americans do for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years! The whole family gets together on New Year's Eve and have a nice meal. The centerpiece of this meal is almost always a turkey, with a bunch of sides such as hummus, borek, Greek salad, and much more! We also decorate a tree for New Years. The decorations used for this tree is exactly the same as what Americans use for their Christmas trees. I think the biggest difference is that we never use real trees for these and always go for artificial ones. We also do present! The presents always go under the tree and we wait till midnight before opening them. There is also a huge lottery that night and the draw happen at midnight and nationally televised. And once the clock hits midnight and everyone opened their presents, we go out partying with our friends. Almost all the bars and nightclubs are open till morning where people party all night long! This whole thing is followed by a day off on New Years, where people just have huge brunches with their families, watch some movies and just relax.
