Christmas is truly the Season of Giving which is why the Myrtle Beach Buccaneers used their one off-day this week to visit the less unfortunate children at their local hospital, the Grand Strand Medical Center.
Earlier when Jeffrey LaVert was younger and entering high school, his younger brother had suffered from a rare disease known as Kawasaki Disease, which had resulted in him losing the ability to walk (temporarily), caused the skin all over his body to peel and made him very tired in general. It was a very tough time for the entire family but the young boy had a lot of support and people that supported him during his time of need.
Grateful to all of those that helped his brother in his time of need, Jeffrey made it a point to be there for those that might need him. I want to be their idol, I want to be a positive role model in these kids’ lives, he thought to himself, hoping to be looked up to and wanting to make a difference in the childrens’ lives as he lugged around a massive bag of toys from the team’s annual toy drive.
At the end of the day, Christmas isn’t always about giving/receiving gifts, it’s also about spending time with the people you love and the positive experiences you share with them, whether it be at the dinner table or under the christmas tree. It is why we celebrate and make it such a joyous occasion essentially, but there are people that cannot afford to do that due to constraints, which was why Jeffrey and his teammates spend time doing toy drives every christmas season to those that may need/want to share those experiences with someone.
