Brotherly Love
Written: We always talk about what teams and players are our rivals. This season, give me what team or player you have a soft spot for.
This may shock everyone (and even shocks myself a bit), but I have a soft spot for my arch rivals, the New England Patriots of the NSFL: The Orange County Otters. Despite how much the Otters win, and in particular how much they have beat my teams in big moments (San Jose Sabercats and Baltimore Hawks), I have a soft spot for them. The team, particularly under spec has been so consistently good without making major moves or changes. In S17, they traded away their best WR to us (the Hawks) mid season for draft picks and still, somehow made it to the big game, and took the chip from us. Like what? How could they? And now it looks like they have won again. They just keep winning. And I usually hate winners, I like underdogs. But for some reason, I like them. And I don’t know why. I don’t know if it's the little orange otter or seeing the black magic of them winning when they shouldn’t. I don’t know but I like them. And I really want to play for them, but they have an insanely good kicker already, so it looks like it may not happen for another 12 seasons.
Scouting Report
Written: Write a scouting report for one of the incoming draftees in either the NSFL or DSFL.
Scouting Report for S21 prospect Dougie Smalls, Kicker and Punter. Dougie Smalls declared for the DSFL/NSFL after the South Carolina Gamecocks were eliminated from the College Football Playoffs after playing three seasons for the Gamecocks. He was picked up late season by the DSFL’s Myrtle Beach Buccaneers, appearing in 2 regular season games and 1 playoff game. During those games he hit 6 extra points out of 7 extra point attempts and 4 field goals out of 6 field goal attempts. His longest kick was from 41 yards. He did not attempt any punts as a Buccaneer. This is a small sample size from a young kicker makes him hard to assess, but his current training regiment is promising. He is sitting at 72 TPE and is projected to be over 100 TPE before the DSFL draft. With this earning trajectory, and his sights on being brought up the NSFL right away, he could be the best kicker in the DSFL for S20. When Smalls was asked about teams he would like to play on, all he said was “I want to play for winners. If your team is going to put us in scoring position, and put us in scoring positions in the big game, then I want to be there. Let’s get a ring.”

Verso L'Alto Interviewed Dougie Smalls (Link to his post)
1. If Dougie was not pursuing a professional football career, what would he be doing instead?
I'd probably be a rapper, because I can spit some fresh bars. The Notorious D.U.G, Dougie Fresh
2. How would Dougie Smalls feel about playing for the Baltimore Hawks, my current and final team, knowing that they had one of the most legendary kickers in the history of the league, Turk Turkleton?
I have mixed feelings. In some ways it would be cool to bust Turk's records in the house he built, become the outlaw killer 2.0, but again I want to build my own house as a kicker, maybe become the hawk killer. At the end of the day, I want to be on a team that has a strong offense that allows me to use my leg, and a team that is consistently pushing for championships. I know everyone says they are, but I want to see result. Teams that make big moves, win big games, and have plans and goals for the franchise.
3. I've played longer than 99% of players in the league. It can take quite a toll on your body. How long do you expect to be playing in general?
I plan on playing until I am completely useless as a kicker; 12, 13, 14 years is the plan, nothing less. To break Turk's records, you need to play until you're dead.
4. You've talked often about how you want to break the record books in the NSFL. What are your feelings towards your time in the DSFL? Will you keep it as short as possible to give you more time in the NSFL? Or will you try to break records there too?
While I am a huge fan of the DSFL, I want to be one and done. If I am going to break big league records, I need to be in the big leagues. I wouldn't mind a ring and a nod in the award ceremony in the DSFL, but the records I want to break are in the big league.
