Task 2 - Holiday Bowl:
This year, the Ultimus Bowl falls during the holiday season! Let’s help spread that holiday cheer, while enjoying the fiercest and most important game of the NSFL season! This year we’ll be fully embracing the weather! To that end, the Season 19 Ultimus will be played in Denver, Colorado, open to the elements to have a snow covered field! The stadium will be decorated in festive, holiday colors. Lights will be strewn around the concourses, you’ll be able to find Christmas Trees and Hanukkah Menorahs spread throughout the venue!
Are you in a giving mood? Bring something to contribute to the NSFL Toys for Tots drive! We will accept both wrapped or unwrapped gifts for kids of all ages. Prefer receiving gifts? Then you’re in luck! We’ll be doing giveaways during the halftime ceremonies, and a grand prize winner can look forward to a pair of free tickets to next season’s Ultimus Bowl! Halftime will also play host to holiday themed games for randomly selected lucky attendees to participate in. We’ll have Chimney Toss, where contestants will have to throw a football into chimneys of different sizes and distances. Reindeer Run, where contestants will be pitted against each other in a small obstacle course while pulling a sleigh behind them. We have other events planned as well, but don’t want to spoil all the surprises!
You won’t want to miss this year’s Holiday Ultimus Bowl!
Task 8 - Scouting Report:
Today I wanted to take a look at a fellow rookie who could end up being a fierce rival of mine in the DSFL, and potentially even the NSFL down the road. That rookie is none other than QB Cal Lidous, out of Boise State.
Lidous is your prototype right handed pocket passer. He’s got all the tools you look for in a QB that can act as a field general for the offense. Cannon for an arm, able to thread the needle, a high football IQ, great vision when scanning the field looking for open receivers and throwing lanes. He’s not going to be a regular threat to run, but he’s also not afraid to tuck the ball and get himself a few yards here and there if the defense is napping. Good height at 6’3” enables him to be able to see over the line from within the pocket.
A winner everywhere he has gone, he won’t plan on stopping in the NSFL. He took his high school to 3 state championships, and was able to foster a very successful program at Boise State University. He led the Broncos to 4 bowl games, including winning their first ever national championship his senior season against Alabama, in a season during which Lidous also took home the Heisman Trophy.
Cal will be a fierce rival, but I certainly look forward to taking him down if we end up on opposite sides of the ball.
Task 9 - Brotherly Love:
I want to give a shout out to my longtime fake sports brother, Herb Altee. Me and Herb have ties as teammates in both MLR and MLN, as well as being rivals in other fake sports like basketball. It originally started with us being on the Hiroshima Carp in the NPR (Nippon Professional Redditball), and then us both being drafted to the Yankees, where we would eventually become the Bash Brothers of MLR. We quickly formed a bond as teammates and leaders, winning a division title in our expansion season, before we both decided to sign with the Miami Marlins as free agents. Herb is a great dude, always around and always open to listening. He pushes the teams he’s on to constantly improve and generates an atmosphere that encourages everyone else to be more active and contributing to the locker room. Obviously nothing can be guaranteed or predicted, but I know it would be pretty damn awesome to end up on the same DSFL or NSFL teams after the draft. Would be an awesome feeling to get some more teammate experience in a new sport, while working towards a new goal of winning an NSFL championship. Regardless of where we end up, I’ll be rooting for Herb and keeping an eye on his player’s progress, have to at least make sure I stay ahead of him in TPE.
Task 13 - Get Interviewed by a Vet:
Jay_Money: Everyone knows speed is a huge part of your game. Are there any other facets of your game that you think doesn’t get enough credit?
Wildcard09: I would say my strength. I've spent a lot of time in the gym bulking up a bit since college, and I'm hoping it translates to the trenches.
Jay_Money: What is the first thing you are going to do with you DSFL paycheck?
Wildcard09: First thing I plan on doing is getting some equipment to help me train better. Then maybe a nice new truck.
Jay_Money: Is there a part of your game that you would like to improve your rookie season?
Wildcard09: I want to improve as a run stopper. I think I've cemented myself as a dangerous pass rushing threat, but I want to prove that I have an all around game.
Jay_Money: What are your career aspirations?
Wildcard09: I'd obviously love to play a long while, win a title or 2. Rack up a ton of stats if possible. Eventually maybe I do well enough I can get a coaching job when my playing days are over.
