1) Holiday Bowl
With the Ultimus taking place right around the holidays, there should be a number of changes to the big game to really get into the spirit. First, if there is not snow on the ground already, several feet of snow should be blown onto the field prior to the game. This would make the game much more enjoyable as it would take a while for the smaller players to even get in the game. Or they could be used as stepping stones, as it were, to allow the larger players to run across the snow drifts that would accumulate. I would also have all of the referees dressed as Santa Claus. They could ring a bell for each penalty, as well as announce each player as naughty when they commit an infraction. You could also use them in the halftime show to allow for a truly holiday themed presentation. For this I would bring in some reindeers and elves and have them put on a little play showing the origin of Santa and his helpers. The snow might hide the elves, so at this point a large platform would be needed for the production. This could be a snow globe or some other wintry item. There are a lot of other options, but these would help make a successful holiday bowl.
2) Revenge
They say revenge is a dish best served cold, and I would have to agree. Our revenge will come against the entire league next season, but specifically it will be nice to beat some of our division rivals, most notably the Wraiths. I think the time has come for the Wraiths to take a step back in the standings after quite a few seasons of dominance in the division. While they have quite a few of the same players coming back, I think that BigRed stepping down will have a bigger impact on the strategies of their team. All this will lead to a meeting between us and them in the playoffs, where we will exact our revenge after being under their heel for long enough. The backbreaking play will come off of a pick 6 caught by none other than Ricky D'Attoria himself just when the Wraiths least expect it. At the same time Mike Franchet will break the back of Cooter Bigsby on a blindside block that will end the game for him as well as his career, sadly. Morbid, yes, but revenge is never really a pretty thing, and the Wraiths must learn the hard way.
3) Penalty Box
Speaking of Mike Franchet, he would easily be the most penalized player were the league to implement a penalty box system in the NSFL. Franchy is a bit of a loose cannon on the field, and the refs know that. He's been known to completely disregard all rules on the field. Once, he even broke poor Cooter Bigsby's back, or at least in the above PT he did. While an absolute madman on the field, Franchet is actually a big softy in real life. For the reverse of that, we have to look at Avon Blocksdale Jr. Avon is actually one of the softest people on the field. The problem is in real life he usually ends up in the penalty box. He has been known to just punch random people in practice, usually for no good reason at all. While might think this is okay, it certainly is not for the star QB of the up and coming Philadelphia Liberty. What will certainly be the test will come when Avon is called up this season, as what flies in the DSFL does not usually go in the big leagues. Hopefully he can rein himself in before taking over for the legend Falconi. With all that said, the Liberty are a well run organization, and most of this is probably overblown to some degree.
4) Dynasty
You don't have to look far in the league to find a perfect example of a dynasty. The Orange County Otters have been dominating the league since it's inception almost 20 seasons ago. However, it's time for a changing of the guard. Let me introduce you to the Philadelphia Liberty squad of the future. First, Avon Blocksdale is being called up the season. With the pedigree of one of the greatest to play the game as his father, you can almost bank on him tearing up defenses for many seasons to come. To go with him are two studs entering their prime. The first is Sam Torensen, who is the highest TPE running back in the league except for a couple backs. To go with him is Nacho Varga, who does not need much explanation as one of the best receivers in the league. The team is absolutely loaded on defense. With another pair of S15 studs in Richard D'Attoria and Emondov Emoji anchoring a fearsome defense that surprised a lot of teams last year and is only going to get better for many seasons to come. Not a lot of people are picking Philly as the next dynasty, but with Spec stepping down, you can bet they will be ready to take the throne from them as their best players begin to peak.
