Unfortunately I am too new of a player to have won an Ultimus trophy, but I was lucky enough to be picked up on waivers and help the Minnesota Grey Ducks win the Ultimini last season. Of course the celebration kicked off directly after the game in the locker room where we had the traditional champagne showers. Or should I say sparkling cider showers as some of us were not yet of age. After that we had an after party with trophy in hand and again some more “sparkling cider”. Later in the week we hand the usual parade which was one of the craziest experiences in my life. The streets were full of screaming fans and unlike the stadium they were so close that the screams seemed even louder. As soon as we stepped onto that float and the crowed roared I had chills down my spine. The final tradition that we follow of course is the meeting with the president at the White House lunch. That was special in its own way as listening to such an influential person who is often called the leader of the free world is something else. Just his presence alone makes you realize why he earned that title. After all that my favorite part may not have been a tradition for most but I plan on making it a tradition I uphold, celebrating with my family. In Hawaii when something special happens all the family gets together and we have a big potluck and just enjoy each others company. Something I hope I can share with my teammates and make a tradition for them the next time we win one.
