Having never completed a SFL season in either league, let alone never winning a Ultimas or Ultimini, I cannot speak specifically to the traditions for champions. Even in the defending champion Grey Ducks locker room we do not speak of what comes after the final game, every week our focus is solely on winning the game in front of us. But I do know, should that glorious day come after our hard work, what I will say if I hoist the trophy some day.
"I'm going to momma's house."
This is not a roadside diner in Santa Monica that I loved when I first moved here, that's Mel's House and you can bet I'll go there too. I'm not talking about a club that I got banned for life from for throwing a paparazzi out a second story window, that's Casa de Mama, and I'll likely go there to flaunt my hardware.
The first thing I will do if I win it all is board a plane and fly back to my home country, where I will rent an expensive car and drive out to the countryside, to the farm that I was raised on and grew strong on. To the house that my drunk of a father gambled away and my mother had to work many jobs to get back from the bank. I will ride up to momma's house, take her to the bank and pay off her debt. If I am to be here in America playing the football I want to be sure my family is secure at home.
And for any other championship I earn I will again return to momma's house to show to her how the love she raised me with and the work ethic she taught me have paid off as big as they can.
