You may have heard the phrase ‘What happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object?’. But what if the unstoppable force is the immovable object? Bubba Thumper is that force, he is that object. He is the line in the sand that no running back will cross, the castle walls of a fortress that will never be breached.
Some pass-rushing specialists operate on the end of the line, becoming a menace on the periphery, a shadow on the edge of the quarterbacks vision. Bubba Thumper is no shadow. Bubba Thumper is the sun. He engulfs all. Game-plans are built with Thumper at the centre, everyone else just orbiting, hoping desperately that they don’t get too close to the sun.
Quarterbacks flee when he approaches, seeking safety, and safeties are what they receive. By seeking for the end to be in their own territory, just as those close to death might wish to pass at home, looking for comfort they will fine none. All they will find is the ball handed back to them to go once again into the fray. All they will find is Bubba, who is forever hungry. All they will find is an unstoppable force, an immovable object.
Awards will do little to sate his hunger, but they are all you have. So give him DLotY, give him MVP, give him all you have, and hope for now he passes over you and that you may eek out a life somewhere he can't touch, if such a place exists.
