It’s time we showed some love for my boy Inspectah Deck. He started off a rather unknown commodity. Heck, I would say he is still quite unknown on a league wide level. What he has done this season, though, has really put himself on the map in the DSFL. When he first started, he was like most of us. Unsure and unproven at this level. In his rookie season, he wound up second on Tijuana in tackles, while also posting 5 sacks, 8 pass deflections and a forced fumble with 2 recoveries. He followed up his rookie season by going off this year. He is 5th in the league in tackles, has 5 more sacks than anyone else and still has 6 passes deflected. The man has been all over the field this season and it’s evident. His 14 sacks through 12 games is a Tijuana record. Without jinxing him, he has a great opportunity to tack on a couple more to his tally. He also set the team record for sacks in a game with 4 earlier this season. I don’t see any player being more worthy of LBoty or even Dpoty than Deck. I think you can give a head nod to MacGregor’s 147 tackles (26 more than second), or Quaid’s 121 tackles and nice combo of forced fumbles and fumbles recovered. If we put more emphasis on stats outside of just tackling, Deck comes out on top. Even if you combine MacGregor and and Quaid, Deck still has more than double their TFLs, triple their sacks and double their pass deflections. For those questioning why pass deflections are relevant, it shows that he does more than just rush the passer all game. He plays all over the field and makes the most out of wherever he is. Quaid’s 3 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries are impressive and might really bring him into consideration compared to Deck’s 1 FF, but I don’t think it should be quite enough to tip the scales in his favor. Deck also has 3 top 30 defensive performances, including the #1 overall performance. For me, that is enough to be the Defensive Player of the Year.
