It's hard to look at Portland's season and pick out a lot of positives to talk about. The offense was abysmal, the defense at times non-existent and on top of it all, a lot of turnover in leadership. But there were definitely some players that deserve some recognition for the season they had in the face of such adversity. Here I want to specifically talk about two linebackers, Gregor MacGregor and Perry Tucker Jr. MacGregor led the DSFL in tackles this season, outpacing the player with the second most in that category by a whopping 32 tackles. While he may not have some of the other stats piled up that other linebackers did, his tackles alone show just how many plays he shut down. MacGregor was all over the field, and he had to be considering the dearth of talent around him. Tucker Jr didn't have nearly the tackles that MacGregor did, but he was making key plays racking up 7 sacks and 9 PDs despite only getting to play 12 games. I think it's not hard to believe he could have eclipsed double digit sacks had he not been held back. Sure the numbers alone don't show that either of these players are outright the best linebackers, but put into context with how poorly Portland fared and how these two had to step up, they deserve some recognition.
