6) Expansion
Written: There have been a lot of new players entering the league recently. If you were in charge of a new expansion team for the NSFL or DSFL, how would you go about it?
A few hours before I started this post, it was announced that two new DSFL expansion teams had been commissioned, so for the purposes of this post I will be answering the question "How would I run a DSFL expansion team if given the opportunity?" Well for starters it's all about location. While the league covers a wide variety of locations in and beyond the United States I was shocked to discover that there were no New York based teams my first act would be to rectify this. Second success in football starts at culture and I plan on creating a winning culture. This starts with me being the type of leader that players can have faith in. Second filling this team with a core of rookies that are eager to prove themselves and giving them every opportunity to prove their worth. Then surround that young core with a handful of well respected veterans on both sides of the ball to help run the show, and guide the rookies to greatness. Finally building up an audience of fans and supporters to cheer on the team. In a market as big as New York numbers isn't going to be a problem. The problem is going to be getting them on our side. New Yorkers are a notoriously tough crowd and are not easily impressed. If we want to get them on our side we need to come out swinging on opening day and then keep going for the rest of the season. At the bear minimum we will need to at least look competitive for our first couple of seasons. If we do that then I believe the future will be wide open for this new team.
8. Scouting Report
The following is a scouting report on Susan Cash.Jr. A Wide receiver from CSU who has declared for the DSFL draft.
Physical Description: One of the physically stronger Wide receivers in this year's draft. The kid has no real injury history to speak of. Never missed a game in college. (although it is worth noting his lack of serious playing time for most of his career see weakness below.) Good height.
Abilities: A focused individual who stays cool under pressure. Came in clutch during third downs and made the most of his red zone opportunities. A well rounded athlete, but does not excel at anything in particular.
Weaknesses: The most glaring one is his lack of experience. Only three years as a Wide receiver and only one as his school’s WR1. He also has no playoff experience so despite his stellar senior year weather or not he can make that jump to the pros is questionable at best. On top of all that possible discipline issues. He got into several fist fights during his time on the field at CSU and allegedly one fight off the field (though I have been unable to confirm this.) When asked about this he said “They were being bullies and I don’t like bullies.”
Summation: While he is definitely a bit of a gamble the payoff is certainly worth considering. He may not be the most experienced player he has shown he has the ability to adapt and grow into a very good player. I’m not sure I would call him a superstar but stranger things have happened in this league.
11. Interview a Star
My guest today is TE Rainier Wolfcastle @thefrowntownclown. My questions will be in the regular font and Rainier's answers will be in bold font.
1. I’m sure everyone already knows the answer to this one, but why don’t we start by telling the folks back home what’s your name, what team do you play for, what position, and how long have you been in the league?
1.As good a place to start as any. I'm Rainier Wolfcastle, tight end for the DSFL Champion Minnesota Grey Ducks, just finished my first season in the D and going into the NSFL draft this year.
2.How did you get your start in this league? How did you find the league? What about it drew you in?
2.Like many of this year's NSFL draft I joined before the season with a big group of guys from another league, Major League Redditball. Our season is winding down and my team has been out of the playoff hunt for a while so I decided to give it a shot. What I found was not just a fun league, but another place with funny and chill people to hang out with on discord.
3.How has the league changed since you got here?
3.It's obviously cliché but its been a reminder to change the things I can change and breath about the things I can't. I talk with my team about my stats between games or sometimes an odd piece of strategy, but once the sim starts there's nothing to be done. Just sit, watch, and hope the changes I made help. If they do or don't is fine, just more information to use for the next change.
4.Any advice for rookies starting out? Any pitfalls they should try to avoid?
4.Biggest piece of advice I can give is talk to everyone. Your GM, vets in the room, and other new teammates is obvious, but everyone else around the league will help you. It's better for all of us if everyone has fun, so it's really unlikely you'll encounter anybody intentionally giving you bad advice.
5.Last question. Anything you want to say to your fans, your friends, or your enemies? Anything you want to plug?
5.Yes I'd like to thank all of my fans for sticking with me not only through the ups and downs of my season but also through all five McBain movies. You are the best fans on the planet and I do what I do for you.
