1) Playoff Predictions, Reviews:
In the first round of the NSFL playoffs, we had the Baltimore Hawks facing the Colorado Yeti. The reason I wanted to review this game, was because the game was decided by a field goal. Out of all the playoff games, this was the only one that had a nail biting finish. First we will take a look at the starting quarterbacks for each team. McDummy led his team well in the opening round of the playoffs, with a QB rating of 83.8, threw for 263 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the otherside of the ball Havran had a QB rating of 79.5, threw for a whopping 322 passing yards with 2 touchdowns. He did throw one interception which was the only turnover in the game. This extra possession for the Colorado Yeti, was probably a big reason they won the game. The rushing game for both teams were held scoreless and not a huge impact in the game. Baltimore was more dominant through the air, as Maddox picked up 139 yards with one TD and Landers 97 yards. The Yeti had Forty-Two receive for 113 yards with 1 TD. However the rest of the receivers were held for less than 50 yards each. Baltimore would score a touchdown late in the 4th quarter to bring the score to 26-29, but the costly turnover would do them in as the Colorado Yeti would hang on and win.
4) Rivalry
I can't say that they have a rivalry with me, but I am really enjoying trying to beat SabaDonut as a wide receiver. We both had fantastic seasons, but he would edge me out in receiving yards by four. Four whole damn yards. That was a tough one considering how close the race was down the stretch. He also had one more touchdown than me, which was throwing a little bit more salt in the wound. All in all it was a fun maybe one sides rivalry. I do have to give him credit though, he had 20 less receptions than me and put up fantastic numbers. Averaged 5 more yards a reception and had a long of 66 yards. Now, with that said. He better get use to eating my dust from here on out. I will be taking over the primary wide receiver role in Chicago and leaving him in my rear view. For me this is a very friendly rivalry. I got to know SabaDonut during my DSFL days when I was a Portland Python. Now that we are both in the NSFL, I really want to be the better wide receiver. And I think being the top guy in Chicago gives me a really good chance next season.
5) Armchair GM
For the sake of not being hit with tampering charges, I am going to right this media as a team needs and where they can find those pieces. I have been on the Chicago Butchers since I was drafted in season twenty. It took a lot of internal changes to get where we are but I truly believe we have the right people leading this team now. The team made some controversial moves during the middle of season twenty. But immediately those trades started to shape the identity of our team. We still had a lot to improve on the defensive side of the ball even with the trades. After the recent off season changes of Ryan Leaf Jr to our new running back and Ahri moving to defense. I knew the priority for the team was bringing in as many defensive players as we could with the remaining cap. I expect our management will be reaching out to all the top defensive free agents this off season and making a strong case for why Chicago is the best fit for them. And I also expect us to draft 3 defensive players with our first 3 picks. We could also use a tight end, if one falls to us, but I think the theme this off season and draft is defense, defense and defense.
7) Next Year
I know what you all are thinking, Chicago Butchers winning something? I know in my experience in sim leagues everyone loves having a common team to trash talk. And rightfully so, that team was Chicago, but I truly believe this team will make the playoffs in season twenty one. All the moves we have made, everyone buying in. I think we have a real shot this year. And as the saying goes, anything can happen in the playoffs. We showed at the end of season twenty, we can win big games against top teams in the league like Orange County Otters and the eventual Ultimus Champions themselves, the Austin Copperheads. The team has made a lot of improvements on the defensive side of the ball. And as we continue to slot in more and more defensive depth, I know the offense can do the rest. We have a fantastic QB in Rose Jenkins, who hasn't had a team around her until now. I expect her to have a career year this season and lead this team into uncharted territory. At this point it is just staying the course and silencing all that outside noise. Chicago will no longer be seen as a bye week and if you want to beat us you better come to play.
