*Is speed really all that?

Have read similar analysis but about the NFL because lolnerd. Because events like interceptions are statistically rare, it's really hard to draw conclusions from them. Look at Darrelle Revis' interception numbers in his first stint with the Jets, for example. From 2007 to 2011 (discounting 2012 because he only played 2 games) he got 3, 5, 6, 0 and 4 interceptions. Was he really bad in 2010? Nope. He had an All-Pro season and QBs were terrified of throwing his way. But interceptions don't happen very often, and good defensive play doesn't necessarily result in interceptions.

Analysts use stats like 'passer rating allowed' more often now, because then the sample size is much bigger. Using passes defenced rather than interceptions gets us closer to that, but I assume the sim doesn't have the more advanced stats easily available?

tl;dr: I love the concept I just wish we had more solid data to draw conclusions from.
