Also, for that last comment, isn't that the point? To get players who buy into what your selling?
Yes, and if you don't understand how I'm not sure how much more simple I can explain it. For you though, I'll try. Let's look at the Wraiths/Vegas trade.
Current Situation
Las Vegas has:
Ramiro
LeClair
Ferguson
Flimjollywop
Wraiths 6th
And Las Vegas lost:
Their 1st, 2nd, 4th, next years 2nd, and "future considerations"
Wraiths can now protect all 12 of thier remaining active players
Other situation:
If they waited until after expansion draft, lets say Wraiths protected Ramiro, LeClair, and Ferfuson but left Flimjlllywop exposed.
Las Vegas:
Drafts Flimjollywop in expansion, and one more other wraith active player.
Las Vegas trades that other active player and only a 1st, 2nd, and 4th for Ramiro, LeClaoe, and Ferguson
In this scenario, Las Vegas would save a pick and keep all the same players. There is a cost that the Legion are paying by making these trades before the draft. Period.
