1. you skipped barry's tenure as Gm right before I took on the co-GM position (I didn't take over for Toasty)
2. stego's article was based on a single week's strats and not factoring AE switching to CB as a basis of the trade, so I wouldn't put toooo much weight behind it.
Entertaining read nonetheless!
I think I addressed this when I was replying to comments on my post. I totally agree that in terms of execution moving AE to CB changes the results of y'alls end of the trade during this season. Very specifically though that is THIS season. Its manifested itself into more wins this season and y'all probably do make the playoffs because of other teams imploding along with your improvement.
What still does deserve weight is the questionable decision to go all in regardless, which is something I did touch on in that piece. Your top 5 TPE players are either already in regression or are set to hit it this year. Eight of your top 10 TPE players are either already in regression or are set to hit it this year.
One of the key factors of a regression system that hits at a controlled time is that you should be able to build around it. I also totally understand looking at the number of players you're about to roll into regression and seeing a potential argument to push everything into the middle of the table and go for it. The point that both myself and a lot of people made or were trying to make was that in some ways that strategy is good if this is a push that gets you to a championship. Anything can happen in the playoffs - I of anyone understand that based off of how much work I've done on regular season value/expected wins and then seeing who won the Ultimus after - which might have made the trade make sense in a normal, small draft class season.
The picks you surrendered are in what people are referring to as one of the most loaded drafts ever. Yes, the later picks you have are still capable of landing good people but you missed the opportunity for a full and complete reset with two other top tier players. You could have even chosen to sell instead of buy and went all in on this draft and had a developing core for the next three or more years.
The merits of the trade are improved by me neglecting to include AE at CB in the sim and your improvement on the year but the other underlying message in my assessment of it and the assessment of everyone else was the questionable move to decide this was the time to sacrifice ammunition in one of the best NSFL drafts ever.
Just thought I should defend my article a bit.
