I’m not the most up to date on hall of famers or even recently retired players, but I do have one player in mind. Lightsout Lewis was the kind of defender that defensive coordinators plan their entire defenses around. Now, I don’t have stats to back up my opinion on Lewis’ enshrinement, but I can attest to the buzz surrounding Lewis once he hit free agency prior to playing his final season in Yellowknife. He was highly sought after, and that has to count for something in a league where you are only as valuable as you are active. On top of that, I have personal bias because I know Lewis is a good dude and you always want good things to happen to good people. I can also say that I would have loved to share a defense with the guy before he played his last game.
I will close this PT with a variation on the subject and acknowledge two guys I do get share a locker room with. First, I would like nominate Rod Tidwell for immediate induction upon his retirement, which I hope isn’t for a very long time. Another current player that I hope gets a bust in the Hall of Fame would be Mako Mendonca. A constant professional that comes in and performs week in and week out while still being a team leader. Mendonca and Tidwell are two guys that would be very at home in the Hall.
