The best case as to why the Portland Pythons will win the Ultimini is simple. We have an elite defensive backfield that leads a suffocating defense. While our offense may not be the best in the league, our defense is certainly a top 2 team, leading in points allowed with a staggering 15.8 points allowed. They are top 3 in every other major category for defense as well, being 2nd in the conference in yards allowed, rushing yards allowed, and passing yards allowed, while being 3rd in the lead for yards and rush yards and 2nd for passing yards. This team can make a run based on the defense wins championships mantra, whether it’s the defensive backs locking down your passing game or the front 7 stopping the run and not even allowing the QB to get his passes off accurately. This is a scary team that is peaking at the right time, having won their last two games. They’ve not allowed more that 14 points since week 9, when they beat the Buccaneers 33-21. There are not many games where they allowed more than 2 scores and over 20 points, and this is why they will make a serious run at the Ultimini this season. They are a team to be worried about in the playoffs this season. (219 words)
